Mitchell injury

Don't know who is right (or most right) in this situation, but it doesn't really matter. The damage has been done. Don and the players are pissed and we're down 0-1 and are one of the laughingstocks of the league right now. Don has also lost complete trust in the medical staff, and even if they were legitimate in their concerns, they have to go. Don is not replaceable. A training staff is. This is a Kawhi situation.

My main thing: I think Mitchell is overly concerned with image, so this whole thing is just go get the point across that he isn't being held out because he isnt ready. He's ready, he's an alpha, he's got mamba mentality.

No it's not. Kawhi situation was a medical staff playing him when he wasnt ready.

What's the point of having a medical staff if we are just going let the players do what they want? You dont get rid of a top-rated medical staff just because one player doesnt like his ankle rehab. \

It's time for the new owner to step up to the plate. This gave the organization a look of utter incompetence. He didn't make ten bazillion dollars with decisions like this.

Holy hell that's so ****ing stupid. How can we have a "power struggle" over an ankle injury? Why would Mitchell's staff and the team staff not just confer and come to an agreement? What a **** show at the worst possible time. This is so ****ing stupid. Someone in upper management needs to get ahead of this. But it's too late to get ahead of it really so now it's damage control. **** me.

Jazz gonna Jazz.

Eh, I disagree. I think you do get rid of the medical staff to avoid a Kawhi situation.

It is a Kawhi situation in the sense that there is no trust between player and training staff. The way it was handled, last minute surprising everyone, was also awful. If he was in a state where he shouldn't be playing, he shouldn't have been a full participant in practice and he should have been listed on injury reports. At the very least, he and his teammates should have been notified more than a couple hours before tip off.

The reality is that you can't have a training staff that the players don't trust. Gaining the trust of their patients/clients is part of any medical professional's job. Like I said, Don is not replaceable. Training staffs are. You should never pick a training staff over a star player.

I think there is a huge difference between the mistrust of "this team doesnt give a **** about my health and will play me until I'm injured" and the mistrust of "this team is being overly cautious and babying me/maybe has my diagnosis wrong, but wrong in a way that is airing on the side of caution"

You'd be surprised how many people make their billions by stumbling into it. Nobody gets there by pure luck, obviously, but to reach that level of wealth things have to fall your way. It's the same for anyone in the top 0.0001% of anything. It's the reason why it's almost always bad when owners stick their fingers into basketball operations.

Having said that, any organization with a hint of competence should have been able to handle this better. Having a player lose faith in the medical staff is bad, but maybe that's just a part of the business. Your own players not knowing Mitchell is being held out until a couple hours before gametime is ridiculous.
