True, but there were many on the board who knew Almond was a foregone conclusion, should he be there. Sasha Pavlovic and Kris Humphries were pretty much known, too. Snyder, Brewer, Koufos, Maynor, and to some extent, Hayward were all surprises. Brewer more because he was still available.
 
All I'm saying is that the only inkling anyone can gather on who KOC has his radar set on is perhaps who's invited to the workouts, other than that, KOC never shows his hand early (especially this early).

Yeah, I understand. One of the other factors is that the Jazz used to draft later so it was harder to know who would be there when they picked. My point is that there were some players who were linked to the Jazz and when they were available, it was no surprise when KOC announced their name.

Even then KOC does a good job of not tipping his hand. He usually brings in several guys to workouts and not just picks in his range. Last year he snuck Jeremy Evans in on a multiple player workout, I think everyone believed he was there just to make an even number of players. He also worked out 2 or 3 players who were projected in the early to mid 20's.

The only trouble with the secrecy is that the Jazz risk not having the fan base on board with the pick. Last year's Hayward booing was the perfect example. The team owned radio station didn't know what the team was going to do so for days ahead of the draft they criticized Hayward. Locke was especially hard on him as he was with Maynor the year before.....after Locke does a scouting report and tells everyone why a player will never make it in the NBA it is hard to back track and talk the guy up.
 
Perhaps we should have more faith in KOC and less in Locke. Seems like Locke tries to complicate things with all his "in-depth numerical analysis" when sometimes all it takes is the eyeball test to determine whether or not someone can play.
 
How about drafting this Euro at 12? I'd be cool with that. Bargnani, for as much as he is made fun of, still averaged 21 ppg last season and is a career 37% 3-point shooter.

So if Locke really doesn't like the guy and says thats who the Jazz should not draft, thats who they well draft. OK got it.
