MWC decides not to expand

So you think Utah is going to get in with the Texas movement instead of Baylor(or whomever), or only if Texas to the Pac 10 falls apart?

Right now, I can say I'd be surprised if Utah doesn't move to the PAC. But yes, that is contingent on Texas to the PAC not working out - which I believe will be the case.

I hope I'm wrong. Although it would be funny if both BYU and utah move (BYU to the Big 12) and leave Boise in essentially the same situation they were in with the WAC - beating up on SDSU and Wyoming instead of USU and SJSU.

I think the only reason Utah to the PAC hasn't already been announced is that the PAC is waiting for Texas to make a decision. Texas says no, Utah is in.

I prefer the Utah/Pac 10 getting screwed scenario myself. Colorado and Oklahoma State to the Pac 10, BYU and Air Force/(or)TCU to the Big 12.

Despite what that powerhouse of sports TNZ.com reports though, I really don't think Oklahoma State would risk moving before Oklahoma or Texas.

Wow, what a difference 4 days makes.

I think it's a very good move. Shows the conference is being proactive.

BCS money is just too important to ignore. The emergence of TCU - and continued success of Utah and BYU - was really forcing the hand of the BCS. Even though there might be a fear that BSU becomes another Rice or UTEP in 5-10 years, the fact that their record over the past three years has to be included in the next review of the MWC makes an invite a no-brainer. The MWC will get an automatic berth, regardless of what happens now to the Big-12.

Change is inevitable. Pac-8, Big-8, Big-10, SWC, WAC, SEC. Those are the conferences I remember as a boy. All of them are significantly different (or gone). I think we'll see the evolution into maybe 4, 16-team super conferences with 2-divisions each. This sets up a pretty good play-off system (without really calling it a playoff). Division winners play each other, leaving a top 8. That sets up 4 big bowl games. Give those to the 2nd-tier bowls. Then you have the Rose, Orange and Fiesta rotate the semifinals and National Championship game. That still leaves some mid-majors or independents on the outside looking in. Maybe play-in game(s) for any undefeated teams is used to fill a possible playoff spot.

Of course, 4 major conference won't happen overnight. But the SWC is already gone. Next up is the Big 12. Remnants will go to the PAC-13 or 16 (whatever it ends up as), maybe some additonal teams to a newly-named MWC. And RIP, WAC. You are now dead in the water as a relevant conference.

That's the hope, right? However, is there anything that is going to prevent them from re-writing the rules now? Because obviously they are going to have reason to if massive movement takes place. Even if we do get one auto bid, isn't the question now.....how do we get 2?

they will rewrite the rules just to keep out so called inferior conferences. You can bet on it. The only question is will BYU and/or Utah be on the other side of debate or will they still be the ones getting screwed?

I don't like this move unless it's a precursor to some of the big boys in the conference moving on up.

A fairly likely scenario, which would be best case for utah and worst case for BYU, would be aTm to the SEC, Texas, TTech, Ok St, and OU to the PAC - leaving the PAC with 15 teams and needing one more (utah), while basically dissolving the Big 12 and leaving BYU with no place to go.
