My thoughts on Hayward

So your question is, "Would you rather root for a team that won one championship when having a chance for six or a team that didn't win one when having a chance for six?" If so, then it's kind of a wash for me.

Im not even going to try and get my point across to someone who cant comprehend simple things.

Obviously, since your "point" can't even be supported by your own examples, it has to be my fault, right?

basically its you being a prick and trying to a smart *** and not look at the obvious question at hand.

I feel like im teaching you about basketball.

I agree Mambo, and Darkwing...with regard to how to build a championship team. It doesn't matter what we want anyway, because the front office is committed to always putting the best possible team on the floor (thus we will rarely be in the lottery). The Lakers dynasties have always been built over time, not overnight. Same with San Antonio, Chicago, Detroit, and Boston (except for this most recent run). Stockton and Malone created a "dynasty in the making", they just fell short. Building a dynasty over time is the only "meaningful" way to win it all. Do I care that Miami won one and then went back to being mediocre? No, not at all. Boston either this coming year, or the next, will likely be a cellar dwellar again. Fortunately for the Jazz, they don't even have the choice of doing what many of these teams try to do (i.e. buy a championship)...cause we can't get the free agents, and the Millers don't have the extra luxury $. So if we're going to ever win it all, it HAS to be building over time like the Jazz FO is doing. Tomic could be (if he comes) the piece that puts us over the top...and we haven't yet seen what this Free agency period will bring yet.

The Jazz "can" build a dynasty team over the next few years...they may not, but it's more possible for them than Washington, New Jersey, Chicago, Portland, Denver, etc.

Ok, now I'm not sure who I agree with. Mambo and Darkwing are confusing me. Every time I think one of you is making one point, you make the opposite point, and then the other takes what's left. How bout we not argue, just for argument sake. And the name calling isn't necessary.

You'll get used to it (or can overlook it I hope) it happens here a lot, especially the name calling its how some flex their internet muscles.

Sorry, Im just sick of the usual Jazz fan that calls a 50+ win season a good season

You guys need to realize at the end of the day there is one winner.

And the other 29 teams are losers.

While true, this is an incredibly pessimistic viewpoint to take. Taking this to an extreme, over the history of the NBA, every team in its history are losers because their win percentage is below 50%.

I'm also going to now give my thoughts on the whole Boozer/Jazz situation,,,

----------------------------------------------------------

I'd like to have Boozer back on the Jazz. We saw from the games before that he's a guy that can get rebounds and can put the ball in the hole. So we'd like to have him back. But Millsap should be a good replacement for Boozer. He's a player that can get those loose balls and pass the ball.

If worst comes to worst, maybe we can get Chris Bosh in a Jazz uniform. I'm not saying that's the best option, but with the MLE, the sky is the limit on what we can and cannot do. Thanks for reading.

If we can't even resign Boozer then Bosh is going to be waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy out of our reach.

After reading this thread I really hope Mambo finally becomes a true Blazers fan and leaves us Jazz fans to cry about our sucky team and how Portland is such a better team.

Just to throw this out there. Stockton's worse 3pt% in the league (after he became a full time starter) was .242 in 88-89. He shot .358 the year before, and .416 the year after.

Detlef Schrempf shot .154 from three one year. Two years after that, shot .514.

Did they all have arm deformations too?

HEY GUYS ~~~~

Now that Hayward is in the middle of his second season, this topic is coming back full swing. I think looking back, I was right in a lot of ways. Hayward just has that knack, it's hard to describe. He can find the ball and he has definitely put it in the hoop, none of us will deny that. Do you think Hayward has what it takes to be a superstar?

Dear guy who unnecessarily signs everyone of his posts,

Where have you been reading about Elder Hayward? I'm surprised because you didn't mention that he's slow, white, and unathletic. Also, you said he was a pretty good shooter. I've only been able to find articles about him that mention how atrocious he was last season from behind the arc. Guy, thanks for sharing with us too that hopefully we can sign a big man. That was some deep, profound knowledge that this board has been missing for a while. I can see you are elderly smart.

Signed,

ps Welcome to the board!

Hey Archie....solid analysis.

Yo fellow Jazz fanatics,

This is officially my first post. I'm one of the St. George friends of PKM (aka MR. Kentucky Bball!). Glad to be on board.

Just wanted to add a little blurb about Hayward. I was very upset we took a white guy in the draft (yes, I'll admit at times I'm a reverse racist when it comes to Jazz bball, and I know many of you are too). At the time of the draft, however, I actually would have been fine with Cole Aldrich....so maybe I just didn't want a guy who looks like me (tall, white, skinny).

But despite any thoughts I had then, I'm cautiously optimistic, for a few key reasons.

1) Despite the poor 3pt % for his Soph season, the previous season was still high, and his % was still high all tournament (telling me he's clutch). Being clutch is really his game and his reputation, so hopefully that continues. (I hope nobody brings up the last 2 shots he missed in the tournament, because one of them almost went down and the other was from half-court).

2) He surprisingly has a 34.5 inch Max Vertical jump. To give some perspective, Derrick Favors (known as best leaper in draft...besides Wall) has a 35.5 Max vertical, and Udoh is only 33.5. Wall is 39 inches, but he's just a freak of nature. So before we start calling G-time (his nickname in college) "unathletic", I think we should look at the facts. All of his other jumping and agility measurements were really good too. If you want the link, I can provide it.

3) He can create his own shot. Who have we had in the last 10 years that can create his own shot, besides Deron Williams? I'm hard pressed to find anyone. CJ is our best case I think, and I don't think even he has the range of craftiness and moves Hayward does. Whether he translates those skills to the NBA obviously still needs to be proven, but the more I hear people talk about how special he is, the more I get excited. Now I understand why none of the experts thought this was a bad pick, only Jazz fans (including myself) who were uninformed about him.

And one thought on Evans....these are his numbers when adjusted for 40 minutes of play.

15.3 Pts
10.5 Rbs
2.7 Blks
FG 65%

I say WOW! And he's a huge leaper, with a great motor and high bball IQ. Here's for hoping the Jazz stole another "diamond" in the 2nd Round!

Go Jazz!

PKM, get your friend to post more please. He actually seems like an intelligent and we desperately need more of those.

Ah, Mambo...Looks like his changing allegiances to Portland because they built the "right" way worked out well for him.
