Some straw man...
I've consistently referred to real/regularized +/-, as raw +/- is not nearly as useful. The same goes for the player tracking rim protection stats (I have no idea what nylon calculus is), where Kanter is currently 68th of 91 players who have defended 100+ shots near the rim (several of those below him are perimeter players). It's also worth mentioning that the quality of players shooting at the rim is almost certainly lower for those coming off the bench.
Try again, fanboy.
1. And? I didn't say anything about Gobert, who continues to rate much better than Kanter in both defensive RPM and total RPM.According to RPM Gobert is worse at defense than Nene Hilario, Jared Sullinger, and Festus Ezeli. In fact Gobert is ranked 25th in the NBA for centers. Just to remind you there are 30 teams in the NBA.
1. The rim protection stats are taken directly from NBA.com.Since you state you don't use nylon calculus and then went on to use it I will address it. Kanter went from the very bottom of nylon calculus to right around the bottom third. It still isn't great but he is improving on a weakness while his strengths are getting better as well. Nylon calculus actually normalizes for power fowards btw so having power forwards ranked above him doesn't mean they protect the rim better.
Why are his minutes so low? Seems like he should be getting more playing time.
Is he getting in foul trouble or something?
I have no illusions, if Kanter would or could've excepted the first big off the bench role getting 20min a night (like he is in OKC), I'm sure the Jazz would've loved keeping him but he wasn't. He was getting played and used more here in UT then he is currently in OKC and the Jazz weren't going to pay him what he is getting now.
The difference is he just was not happy here for whatever the reason he just didn't want to be here period. Now playing on a team with Durant and Westbrook and just growing up and getting older along with now this year getting what is it 16mil he's probably pretty happy good for him.
Can we move along now.
