NBA rule changes and how it will impact the jazz.

I hope we stop Euro fouling altogether... we eff it up half the time and give up a clear path foul or a key player picks up a foul that sends him to the bench.

Can’t remember where I heard it, but the Jazz were contacted by the league and they stated that freedom of movement will be a point of emphasis... this has been a long standing issue with the Jazz and how the game is officiated. Basically we move a lot off ball and are hinder because guys like PJ Ticker and Ariza are allowed to tackle guys off ball... hopefully this improves but there have been other points of emphasis that fizzle out after the first two weeks of the season. I felt it was especially egregious when we had Gordon... he was so strong he’d fight through the grabbing and holding but the guy got murdered all game.

This change is big for Rudy and Favs... they get held up and hip checked on the pick and roll a lot and it doesn’t get called enough.

The shot clock and clear path stuff are so minor that I don’t care about them really at all.
 
I hate both of those rule changes. There's no reason to change the shot clock from 24 to 14 on an offensive rebound. Nine times out of ten an offensive rebound results in a quick possession anyway. It didn't need to be changed. It's a change for the sake of change. And the clear path rule was fine. Making it a judgement call is dumb. You're gonna have certain refs only calling clear path fouls when no defender is in front of the play and others calling clear path fouls when two or three defender's are back. It's like the catch/no catch bs in the nfl.

Disagree with this. This rule will especially change the way close games are played in the 4th quarter, when teams are trying to run out the clock. Gives the team that's down more opportunity to make a comeback, and will make the game a little more entertaining than having to watch guys dribble out the clock.

As for the clear path foul, I'll have to wait and see how the refs handle it. It might not change much at all, as we've seen the league supposedly change a rule and then not really call it like they said they would.

If you can't grab a rebound then I'm fine with the other team running the clock out. You don't deserve the ball.

The offensive rebound thing should not hurt the Jazz. The transition fouls might.
 
I wish they would have changed the rule that allows someone to inbound the ball via a roll to the player and that player can trot along side it to half court or whatever before picking it up to save shot clock time. Drives me nuts. That should count against the five-second rule imo.

Of course the way to stop that is just to have the defensive team challenge the player, making him move towards the inbounder to receive the ball.
 
Rumor is next season the NBA is going to outlaw the "Euro" foul. It will be outlawed in the G League this year. Not sure what the penalty is (same as clear path l guess?)

Not unexpected - that will hit Utah the hardest
 
I wish they would outlaw the James Harden backwards travel. The refs already give him more free throw attempts than any player in the NBA (4 straight years he has averaged over 10 free throw attempts per game).
