NBA Summer League Wild Overreaction Thread

Yeah. Even if he had a tight handle the KD comparison would still be a stretch.

18 year old KD at Texas is still the best NBA prospect I’ve ever seen (never saw HS LeBron and wasn’t old enough to judge anyways).

KD was 26 and 11 on 50/40/80 (ish) shooting and was the conference DPOY to boot. Most unguardable player I can remember. Rise up from anywhere, back to the basket, mid post, high post, face up and break you down, pull up, catch and shoot - it didn’t matter. If he had the ball within 30 feet you were basically at his mercy. He might miss the shot but you weren’t going to “stop” him.

Top 5 scorer of all time in my book.
Watching KD at the SLC summer league it was obvious he was going to be a star in the league. Ace has potential and like many players if he gets there could be great. But that's not the same.

Ace's tough shot making is a reflection of 1) unique ability to make tough shots 2) the inability to get less tough shots.
interesting. i thought he got plenty of good shots yesterday. makes me wonder how much the tough shots he took at Rutgers were teammates inability to draw defenses, to get him the ball in good spots, no spacing, lack of scoring options to where he felt he had to force things, etc.

3 dunks, a high percentage fadeaway, and two good open looks at three among his makes. that makes up 6 of his 7 made shots. among his misses, were a missed dunk, a good shot over spencer that missed and an open three that he nearly airballed. that's at least 9 of his 14 (those are the only ones i'm remembering right now) that were legitimately good looks/relatively "easy" shots.

His handle is a massive area for improvement. With improvement, he'll get off better (higher quality) shots.

To be more specific, it's the inability to create less tough shots for himself. I don't think he's scored a single basket out of iso in his first two games. It's all come from spot ups, cuts, and putbacks. And those shots are great, efficient shots which he should build his game around.

Naturally, he's not going to get as many of those shots playing at Rutgers. But he's also complicit in his own shot selection. His lack of rim/FT attempts is a combination of his mentality/lack of ability.

Brice is better than that shooter guy in Miami who is always in trade discussions. Why does everything have to be a great defender? His criticism is overdone.

Ace is looking like a number one lottery pick. Wow. Flag who?
