What's new

Next year I want Exum bringing the ball upcourt, his speed rules

Exum is young but has absolutely shown some promising flashes. Now it's gonna come down to his offseasons.

Will he be like Hayward? Or will he never put it all together?

I like Dante and I still think he has an upside. But he got what he deserved in terms of playing time. If he wants more minutes he needs to learn to finish or getting to the rim is irrelevant. And he has to be able to hit wide open 3's. Pretty simple

Shoot 300-400 threes a day.

Stay with Stockton for two weeks like Deron did after his first year.

Work on his dribbling with both hands.

Put on 5-7 pounds of lean muscle. I don't want too much too quickly. His quickness and speed are his greatest attributes. If he can keep that while packing on muscle this summer and next, he'll be a monster.

Needs to be able to make defenses pay for sagging off him..... especially once he has started his dribble.
If he is dribbling then the defender only needs to worry about the drive at this point and can defend him accordingly.

I get that.

But I think he does make them pay for that by driving into the paint and often to the rim.
It is usually the help defender who bluffs X into misses.

I think the sagging off thing doesn't hurt X as much as it might 90% of other players. His speed is so elite that any space he gets means he can choose multiple driving paths. He doesn't need a starting run, but if they give it to him he has shown he can tare past anyone.

It's his finishing at speed which is the most important thing needed to be fixed. I think it's strength work to take contact without losing control, and also learning to use the backboard more.

This, exactly. Needs to be a little stronger in order to finish at the rim, needs to shoot a bit better, and needs to be able to drive left. If he can improve in each of those areas, look out!

I get the improvement on driving to his left.

But he drove left three times yesterday - one for dunk and two for layups.
Does it really matter if his first dribble is with his right hand when he drives left?

He showed improvement but I'm not sure he will ever be good shooting off the dribble... his mechanics are not great for it. Slower release ball out in front of him.

I'm not sure he is the new dimension on offense. I like some of what I've seen but I'm still pretty skeptical that he's a good floor general. I think he may be a bigger version of Leandro barbosa with better defense and worse shooting.

He's a much better passer than Captain Barbosa

I want to see more off the ball screens to get Exum open going to the rim. He excels with quickness, his ability to blow by players one on one is elite. I really feel like Quin's sets magnify Exum's weaknesses, and attenuate his strengths.

watching all the Warriors off ball screens was pretty enlightening

but lets be careful with the "bulk up" mentality. Sometimes they go too far, and it takes away from their game.

Something about Favors offseason workouts scare me. He comes in bigger, but seems to be broken because of it. Maybe I'm just paranoid because of
how injury prone our team seems to be.

Dante is literally the lightest guy in the league at his height (according to probably inaccurate stats but still). I don't think he could bulk up too much in one off season if he tried.
