I thought Carson's holdout was kind of weird. He couldn't stand playing with a bunch of immature ball hogs, so he demands a trade. Instead of trading Palmer the 'Gals get rid of their idiot WRs. Yet Palmer still wants out. I don't see how any of that makes the Cincy org. A-holes. They held onto him until a desperate team was willing to sell the farm.

Clayton piece from ESPN on Cincy and Cleve's futures. Might be the only positive thing on my Brownies I've ever read from him.

See something Harbaugh doesn't? What were Harbaugh's other options? To sign a middling qb like Garrard? Harbaugh went with the best he had and that happened to be Smith. It's worked out well thus far. It could continue to work out well. My guess is they ride this momentum for the rest of the year and have a first or second round playoff exit. Unfortunately for Niners fans what this could do is only mask the issue at the position. Will Smith evolve into a stud qb out of nowhere? Doubtful. Like Archie said, he played C ball at best this weekend. Sure he hit the big pass when they needed it most but he makes too many awful passes on easy ones and I doubt he's the answer there.

I've always considered you a fairly astute follower of the NFL, but you seem to be out in left field on this one. There were plenty of options at the beginning of the season - especially as bad as Alex's rep was. He was not under contract with SF. As god-awful as he was made out to be, why bring him back? You ask anyone before the season starts, and they would consider Garrard an upgrade. I don't know if you mistakenly believe that I am an Alex Smith jock rider. I think he underperformed (woefully) during his rookie contract. But I also think the deck has been stacked solidly against him since he arrived at SF. This will be a telling season. But to this point I have not declared him a success.

But the main point is, Harbaugh kept Smith because he wanted to, not because he had to, and SF is 5-1. Draw your own conclusions.

I had no idea that Smith was a free agent so my point really doesn't totally up. However, Harbaugh very well went with Smith because a) he's cheaper b) he's younger c) he (given his draft status) has more upside d) fits his system better than Garrard. Had he signed Garrard, it may not have made any sense on all of the above even if it did mean the likelihood of winning a couple more games this year. Long-term, Garrard may not have made sense to Harbaugh both on the field or in the wallet and therefore went with Smith, awful resume or not. This may also be the reason he drafted a qb in the 2nd round.

Maybe A-hole wasn't the best word to use. They were hell bent on teaching Palmer a "lesson" though by not trading him. Then somehow this tactic becomes their golden egg and they get 2 first round picks?
 
I thought they were crazy to hold on to him too but here we are. Mike Brown might be the douchiest surviving NFL owner but he's smelling like a rose right now.

The truth is Palmer is a pretty good QB, has a better resume than Cutler, for instance. He's not old as far as QBs go. If you can put aside (not easy) everything else that org. has done over the last decade, this was a pretty smart gamble with a huge payoff. There is no way Palmer pulls better than a 2nd in the offseason, and if it was me running the 'Gals I would have taken it.

I was right with you on this until the deal happened. Oakland made a hero out of Mike Brown.

Also just to clarify a bit more, Alex was re-signed/restructured his contract before the the draft and way before Garrard was available if you remember Gearrard wasn't released until the preseason was about over.
 
God, I just watched a possesion of Tim Tebow. Threw two passes, first no were close to receiever, then on 3rd down missed a wide open Eric Decker by a lot.
