What's new

Nikola Mirotic

New Orleans would prefer to trade Asik over Ajinca, but that contract is pretty toxic because of Asik's limitations. As for the first, New Orleans values wins right now over a first they expect to be in the 20's.

Burks isn't perfect, but he is an upgrade for them. Woj wouldn't have listed Burks in the article if Burks didn't have value.

Right now if we can trade AB for an expiring contract we should do that... I'm not sure that deal is really there.

I live in the southeast and have buddies who are season ticket holders with the Pelicans. They have to win right now in order to make the playoffs in order to keep Boogie AND Davis. Their whole franchise depends on it in their eyes.

We know Burks is limited. However, Ajinca is an anchor for them. If the Pelicans can get any additional quality wing play in place of the guys I listed, they would jump on it. Burks is a massive, massive upgrade over Ajinca.
No he isnt. Burks is just a more costly negative piece. Burks for Ajinca/Clark/Cunningham would actually raise their LT payment this year. The only way they think about doing this is if they get rid of both Ajinca and Asik.

That's because there are hardly any expiring contracts out there which are $9-12 million. I find it highly encouraging that Woj listed Burks. If Burks was an expiring, I could see him being listed with Lou Williams as an easy target due to an expiring contract. However, Woj listing Burks leads a logical person to assume that there are franchises intrigued by Burks.

Dude it's a terrible deal for them. Woj also mentioned picks aren't really out there like in year's past... so they will get a premium. I think AB for Asik and a 1st is a fair trade in a vacuum, but AB is not better than Miller or Moore... or Rondo. So he'd get Ian Clark minutes there.

Thabo and JJ for Asik and a 1st would fit much better for them... thought they would need to send some other expiring contracts back as they are close to LT territory.

Who is Ryan McDonald?

In any case, I've seen somewhere that Mirotic's contract is misunderstood that he doesn't technically have a no-trade clause but something about the fact that he's on a one-year deal (as there's a team option on the second year) that it gives him veto power, but Chicago can revoke his veto power by picking up the option on his second year. I really don't know how accurate that is but can you even pick up someone's option this early?

Neither Asik or Ajina are terrible contracts. If New Orleans is actually willing to trade a first round pick, they could trade both players. They are just owed a combined 15 million next year and 3 million in 2019. A ton of teams (including the Jazz, especially if they actually wanted Burks) would be willing to do that.

However, no one is trading a first round pick to get Burks and just dump Ajinca's small *** contract.

He doesn't have positive value in my mind. The other names like Carroll and Bazemore he named are in the same boat. None of them are worth what they are being paid, but may be movable. Does not mean they will get something good for them.

Burks for Ajinca, Cunningham and Clark would put New Orleans over the luxury by a simple roster waive. They could easily handle that or just send that 2 way type player our way or Chicago's way to make up for it.

Luxury is not a worry in this deal. Sure, New Orleans would love to send Asik in this deal but I just don't see us or Chicago taking Asik. Maybe we do, but that would be a straight Asik and a 1st for Burks

Asik's contract is terrible.

If NOLA came to the Jazz right now and said Asik/Ajinca/1st round unprotected for Burks, DL would be dumb as hell not to do that.

Asik's contract is terrible... two more years after this one at 11M and 12M for a guy who is basically unplayable.
