There is basis. It's called history of what draft picks are. You can look at the history of each pick slot and see what they have become.

The asset may have more value though even if the player is nowhere as good. 4 cheap years with the ability to control the player for up to 7 if you get a good one. That and the upside can be immense if you hit... the chances of hitting are admittedly low.

Once upon a time Mirotic was a first round pick guys... just saying.

Mirotic would improve the team vs Favors or Burks or J Johnson. We have all seen how Favors doesn't work with Gobert AND Rubio and I don't think we are going to be selling Rubio any time soon. We have all seen the need for a stretch 4 on this roster next to Gobert. Now there is a top 3 stretch 4 in the league and some of you are debating whether he would be good for the team?

Outside of tanking for 6 years straight, I don't see a reasonable way to improve our team now than with a solid scoring threat at the 4 position. For that reason, I am stoked about the Spencer Checketts update.

So I guess he can read Espn.com too and make statements that would almost surely be true... but add one more sauce to the story.

My only concern with Mirotic is his defense. We tried that last year with lyles and it was brutal. I hope he isn’t as bad as I remember him to be. Cause even with Gobert back there. If you can’t stay in front of your guy, it makes anyone vulnerable behind you.

Lyles was a bad defender and part of that was ability but a lot was mental. I think Niko is fine... he should know where to be and should be able to do a better job rebounding than Lyles did last year.

We survived with Boris on the floor defensively... I think Niko is better than that.

I worry more that his shooting falls back to earth and he returns to just a streaky so-so three point shooter.

I do not think DL will trade another 1st away. Lesson learned with George Hill walking. He may trade Hood, Favors, Burks, maybe even Exum. Will be interesting to see what happens Jan 15
