What's new

Nikola Mirotic

Like, the Bulls are pretty well setup because this year no one has cap-space but them and a few teams. They could get a guy like Tyreke Evans on a great contract. Or Brook Lopez. They might miss on the huge names, but their is a solid 2nd or 3rd tier in 2018 that wont get the offers they would typically expect.

Nothing about the Bulls history says they are going to try and tank tho. Hell they might go after someone like DeAndre Jordan.
They are tanking right now. That's part of why they are trying to trade Mirotic. If they are interested in Jordan. Then they might be willing to do a straight across trade for favors. But all indicators are they are currently tanking.

Also those players could help them this year and I'm doubting they have big free agent targets this year. They would be wise to target the next off season.

The Bulls are the team who sold Jordan Bell for 3 million dollars. They arent a draft focused team. I think I read they have the smallest draft scouting department in the NBA.

There's a total of 26 guys who have put up more attempts (per game, not per minute) than Mirotic. 14 have a percentage 38% or higher. 100% of them play more minutes than Niko. 0 of them are big men.
I was using nba.com numbers but just realized they mess up shoot attempts by rounding up. Per basketball reference there are 20 players shooting at least 6 3point attempts on 38% shooting or better

I think they are trying to trade him because he got punched in the face and no one on his team really sided with him and they know he probably wont sign back with them long-term so it's best to capitalize on him right now. That doesn't mean they are trying to tank.

I'm curious to know how many are 6 foot 10 power forwards

0. And 6 attempts is generous because he's putting up 6.4 (not to split hairs), but doing so in typically 10 mpg less than all the other guys.

I get that. I think you're misreading me. For the amount of time he's on the floor, the amount of spacing he provides by the volume of threes he puts up is really quite unmatched for any big man. It's not fair to assume he's putting up less attempts because we're comparing him to guys playing 35 minutes on teams that are playing to win.

I don't disagree with you that even if he regress some and cools off, he would have a great impact in our offense. I also think you are misreading me some. I'm just pointing out that using per 36 min is tricky (although I get your point that we are not comparing a 12mpg player to a starter) and that his role might not be that different here than in Chicago. But I believe excellent shooting from the 4 position would be a big boost to our team.
