Maybe the plumbers are these veteran PG’s the Jazz continue to give up assets for to only have around for 1 or 2 years. Hire a scout that can assess point guards!!!

I haven't read the article, but basically we can't keep either of them and have any kind of improvement. Not necessarily because we can't improve with those guys on our team, but for salary cap reasons and/or making any kind of significant trade would require Favors' salary.

I thought this thread would be referring to Rodney Hood's upset stomach and his chronically clogged toilet.

I read the article. I agree, and it makes a decent analogy. I don't know why some people aren't seeing this. I have strong doubts that the FO is seeing this.

All Jazz beat writers have basically been saying that the Jazz FO is quite aware of this. That the same team will not be “run back” one more time.

Because these guys are super duper neeto and really like it here... we have to keep everyone who likes it here so that someday someone might consider coming here.

I think they are afraid of taking a step back, meaning they want to stay in Gobert’s and DM’s good graces if they strike out in free agency. I was wrong about wanting to keep Favors if we strike out in free agency, I love Favors but if you have to take a step back to move forward, do it!

It’s not even about running it back. It’s about keeping Favors and the status quo or moving on. I’m not sure they view keeping Favors and changing the status quo as being mutually exclusive.

Also, them believing there needs to be big changes doesn’t mean there will be, because we may not be afforded those options. In essence, we’ve painted ourselves into a corner with “flexibility.”

Even though @cappysmurf (or whatever his name was) has demanded for years that this isn't what was happening?

Ben Dowsett had a good article the other day on the "opportunity cost" narrative that DL threw out there and had some pretty solid zingers along the same lines... yes there is an opportunity cost... but also there is a missed opportunity cost and that is where DL has failed most often.

It could all be remedied if we get a lifesaver tossed to us by Tobias or Memphis... if not though... we in trouble.

It's obvious the only way to significantly improve the roster is by letting BOTH Favors and Rubio go, not just one or the other. This is why I don't understand why some fans are so hell-bent on keeping Favors. It's also why it's concerning when Dennis Lindsey comes out and say's "Derrick Favors isn't part of the problem, he's part of the solution."

Favors has been the team's most consistently positive playoff performer over the last 3 years.

Rubio has played better than the average Jazz player in the playoffs over the last 3 years.

So if a very good FA doesn't sign with Utah this summer, do you just toss out contracts to average ones because you have cap to spend?

Look, i'm Lindey's toughest critic. I lambaste him relentessly - even too much for some on here who accuse me of only making posts of that nature.

The preferred action is to sign a very good or great FA. But what IF Utah can't attract a player like Tobias or Brogdon, etc.? Does Utah just jettison Favors and Rubio? Because once they do and get under the cap, that's it. They even lose the MLE and only have the room exception.

I'd hate to see essentially the same team return. Jazz could still make at least one strong change by using their MLE, though. So strike out in free agency, and I think Favors SHOULD return. Maybe even Rubio if he agrees to a 1+1 deal. Then the Jazz have the same ammo at the deadline - i.e. $30m in expiring contracts.

And BTW, i'm not a Conley fan. Had he tried to pushbthe deal along or said anything positive, that would be different. Instead he had to deny ever saying he DIDN'T want to play for the Jazz. So **** him.
