The Blazers are interested in KOC for their open GM position. KOC has "no comment" so far on the reports. JK on the "no comment" part. They haven't apparently even contacted him yet.

Hiring KOC would sure skip the step of the Jazz drafting/signing guys a few years before Portland finally goes after them. I'm hearing rumors that next year Paul Allen is considering just buying the Jazz from Greg and merging the two to cut out the competition.

I have no idea why KOC would be interested. Even a substantial salary increase wouldn't be worth the job security he has in Utah and the way Portland treats their GM's.

Agreed, unless he is just plain tired of being the GM for the Jazz.

Paul Allen declared himself a hard-liner in the owners' negotiations with the players in a stunning turn of events on Thursday.

“He’s gone the other way, the complete other way,” a high-ranking league official told Yahoo! Sports. “He’s been the most vociferous lately that [the owners] have given up too much to the players, that they should be holding out for a hard cap, for 40 percent to the players [on the revenue split]. No one has gone after the labor committee harder about this than him.”

Some suspect that Allen's motives are in saving as much money as possible with this CBA in order to ready the Blazers for a sale.

“He’s sort of turned into this era’s Howard Hughes,” said one NBA front office executive.

Allen has a history of disengaging people and things once he loses interest, and that appears to be happening now.

“The worst thing for the Blazers are not the injuries, but Paul losing interest,” said a league official connected to the organization. “And once he loses interest in anything, he doesn’t want to deal with it anymore. He can’t win anymore, so he’s going to literally take his ball and go home.”

Of course he has made bad draft picks and free agent moves, every gm makes mistakes. The good far outweighs the bad. KOC is an elite gm in the NBA. The Jazz should do everything with in reason to not lose him.

I don't want the gm of my team to be aggressive just to make a trade, or free agent signing. That kind of thinking can ruin a team. KOC knows when to be aggressive when it's beneficial to the team, or when better to do nothing. If there is a move that is good for the team KOC does all he can to pull the trigger.

I agree with this. KOC has made some mistakes but I can't think any GMs that don't.

I came across an issue by ESPN.CBS News/another news major sports news source that referred to Kevin O'Connor as the next Sam Presti. So definitely he's elite in my eyes, I consider him one of the best in the league, especially seeing as he's the GM of one of the least lucrative Sports teams in the league.

I want KOC around. He's done a marvelous job, so far, of rebuilding this team. I love the way our future is looking. And I think we're just beginning to see what kind f a GM he truly is now that Miller and Sloan are gone; he's free to do what he really believes is best for the future of this franchise. Now and I for one, can't wait to see what other tricks he has up his sleeve.

If I were KOC, I would want to finish this rebuilding project with the Jazz. He obviously loves Favors and Kanter, so it seems like he would want to stay and build a team around them?..

Exactly. We really don't know how many of the draft "mistakes" were on O'Connor's head and how many were due to Sloan choosing a player to fit his system. We also know Miller vetoed at least one trade (AK). Wish we hadn't lost the threads from the old board. I was always astounded at the numerous "fire KOC" posts. O'Connor is a very good GM. Not too many guys could have rebuilt the Jazz so quickly after Stockton, Malone and Hornacek retired. And Utah is well on the way to being competitive again after the Boozer/Deron era. Perhaps one more "off" year until the Jazz again make the playoffs? That's not bad...2 years to rebuild the team both times.

Just look how long it took for the Celtics, Bulls and Lakers to rebuild those franchises. And those teams have little trouble attracting FA's. To keep Utah competitve in a not only a small market, but also a city and state that is routinely derided by many speaks volumes.

I think KOC would be crazy to go work for Allen. I read somewhere Allen fired Cho because Cho told Allen the truth that the Blazers might have to take a step back to be real contenders.

Not sure why KOC would leave. I believe with Sloan gone and Greg being a relatively new owner he finally has control of the franchise.
