I'm going to set the O/U for Walker 3pt attempts at 20, so if he plays every game, about 1 every 4 games.
Sarah Todd did an article where it seems like Hardy wants him to shoot if he gets it.This will be like the Ben Wallace or Kendrick Perkins post up to start games… okay big fella we fed you a shot now give us all the dirty work we want.
If that’s the case the o/u should be a lot higher. I think he’s only made one I can remember that wasn’t at the beginning of the game or second half.Sarah Todd did an article where it seems like Hardy wants him to shoot if he gets it.
I thought about doing higher, but it felt kind of ridiculous to go anything over 20. Like if he shoots 10 in the first 20 games and makes 1, will it still continue? IDK.If that’s the case the o/u should be a lot higher. I think he’s only made one I can remember that wasn’t at the beginning of the game or second half.
I don’t love it personally as I think duck ins and deep post is more valuable as a tool (to be switching teams) but as long as the three isn’t a huge focus and he’s working on FT shooting way more then whatever.
His mechanics in those gym videos looked pretty consistent. Its not the prettiest but consistent beats pretty all day.Over but I don’t think it will ever really be a huge weapon… best case scenario is like a Baynes type of corner three shooter imo. I just don’t buy the mechanics and the FT shooting still looks like ****.
I imagine in general that they working his shooting form and range in general should translate to long midrange and FTs. It's hard to find 34% 3pt shooters that hit below 70% from the line.If that’s the case the o/u should be a lot higher. Certainly not mutually exclusive but the ideal FT form will not directly translate to the three point line and vice versa. He has a lot going on in his shooting and I think you could make his FT form much more compact and it would help. May not get that compact on a catch and shoot three.I imagine in general that they working his shooting form and range in general should translate to long midrange and FTs. Camping in the corner pulls him out of rebounding position as well… can crash from there but it’s not the same as sliding in from the dunkers spot. I’m not opposed to him developing it… by all means go for it… I just don’t see it as something that should be his focus. If he ends up a 40% corner three shooter and centers can’t just hang out in the paint it’s great.
Until he shoots well over 30% from the corner, he's doing more harm than good there. He's gonna be left wide open because teams will WANT him to take that shot, and I'm afraid our guards will keep passing him the ball "because he's open".Certainly not mutually exclusive but the ideal FT form will not directly translate to the three point line and vice versa. If he develops a bit of gravity and pulls the center out of the paint I think it might actually benefit our offensive rebounding.Certainly not mutually exclusive but the ideal FT form will not directly translate to the three point line and vice versa. Pretty much my thoughts… even down to the mechanics having a lot going on.Until he shoots well over 30% from the corner, he's doing more harm than good there. And yes... he'll be out of rebounding position as well.
Overall, I don't think anything's preventing Walker from becoming a pretty good shooter if he works with a coach who knows what they're doing. He has good hands and a soft touch, and he's a good passer for a young big IMO so there's nothing wrong with his hand/eye coordination. But his FT's have waaaaaaayyyyyyy too many moving parts. Those basic things need correcting.
