What's new

Game Thread Oct 08, 2025 06:00PM MT: Utah Jazz @ Houston Rockets (Preseason)

I saw some nice things out there. Key hustled and tried on D. Obviously Mr. Bailey and Brice were great. I'm back on the Tay Henny express. Nurk, Harkless, Love and Slomo all did some nice things. Walt didn't have a good night and Cody was well Cody. It will be interesting to see who we suit up in two nights.

while the jazz will be terrible this year (yay!), it is a pretty fun mix of vets and youngsters. you can tell the veterans don't have any expectations - they were all more than willing to let the youngsters fly. nurkic 5 shots, love 3 shots, anderson 3 shots - and they are all very good passers. far cry from the JCs, Sexton, etc of the past few years.

other than svi who thinks he's good - hardy will have him on the bench though real fast if he keeps playing like that.

Oh, come on, Sexton is a pretty good passer. It's just Sexton can put the ball on the floor and score, while Nurkic, Love and Anderson cannot and are often forced to pass it.

I still don’t understand the Sexton hate around here. Guy was great for the Jazz, high energy, hard worker and was efficient as hell when he was out there. Thought he was fine in the role they had for him.

Ace has an interesting shot. Ultra quick release at times but others it's like he gets in the air, pauses slightly while he computes how hard to shoot it, and delivers daggers. I guess having great hang time gives you that option.

I was a huge fan of sexton and yeah, he could pass. but he also got his own (and was good at it - again huge fan of the dude). my point was these guys arent going to take shots from the young players.

If you need some comic relief, you should watch Svi trying to guard Thompson in the highlights.

I just can't handle watching that type of defensive performance. I know it's just preseason, but I'm disgusted. There were so many positive things to get excited about, but it's all clouded over in my head by our defense.

I'm going to get some sleep so I can think more clearly in the morning and make more positive comments here.
Friendly reminder that the point of this season is to lose games while being entertaining/fun. Easiest way to do that is be good at offense and atrocious defensively.

My take aways...

Ace is going to be a steal at 5. He did get lost on defense but he tried. On offense? He is so smooth. That fadeaway in the corner!!!

Key takes really hard shots... sometimes they go in, sometimes they dont. Using the Bankboard skews the efficiency he had tonight.

Tay Henny is who I hoped he would be. I was thrilled when we drafted him and still am. Looks like a thick Cam Johnson.

Brice is the new Clarkson. Just seems to be more efficient. Still going to chuck too much for my liking but he will score.

Cody looks stronger and more proactive but still struggles. Give it another 6 months and he should be serviceable.

WCJ looks like he struggled with length but he has vet level craft for a rookie. The Two for one to end the quarter.

Svi is going to try to lead the box score in two categories... shots taken and the minus category (+/-).

Kevin Love is going to coach which is great

Niang is going to help bring that vibe... with or without the boot on the minivan. Thurl had me laughing out loud on that one.

Harkless is BY FAR the on ball defensive example for the team. Hopefully he gets play time.
