Off-Season Rumblings

Look, if you are actually tanking you dont want to appear like you are actually tanking. You are going to have your name in rumors about acquiring players, stop being so damn dramatic.

Are the 6-7 extra wins that take you from 25 to 32 so amazing you want to reduce your chances of top 4 pick by 50% and also pick 3-5 spots lower than you could have. The draft slot difference alone is worth at least another first in most drafts if you move back. I get that Detroit exists… so does SA and OKC.

I think as Jazz fans we've been programmed to have a loser mentality and assume that any luck based outcome will result in a loss for us.

Rumors aren’t the issue to be clear.

I just hate the tank talk, it's so damn lame.

The West is strong enough you dont need to do much gutting. Just play your rookies/2nd year guys solid minutes. Move on from Clarkson. Let Lauri/Sexton/Collins/Dunn be your veteran leaders and maybe go sign some over the hill vets who are just happy to collect a paycheck for being upstanding citizens.

Ok, but is trading Sexton away for a subpar package worth that? I'd rather keep Sexton and have the worse odds. Worst case you are still getting a mid-lotto pick in a strong draft. Best case you get to keep an ASG potential guard and pick 1st.

Maybe. If the good thing makes you good enough to not be great then it’s a problem… but that isn’t the issue. It’s the trading for KO and not selling off Conley early enough… it’s trading for John Collins and keeping JC… those mid moves that stop you from playing the young guys and losing enough. If they do nothing other than draft I think we can be 6-8 ish… making an addition like Tobias or paying a bunch for Bridges is the type of thing that adds 2-5 meaningless wins. If it stays as rumors then whatevs… if it is realized (as some can project it will be based on recent history) then it’s a problem.

And let's use our thinking caps for a second.

Mikal Bridges has two years left on his deal. Utah might just be touching base to see what the cost is this year so when they get Cooper Flagg next year in the draft, they turn around and come back to Brooklyn and say "Hey, we got our core set now, we want to deal a lot of these picks we got in the Rudy/Mitchell/Conley trades for Bridges. We know the price was X last year, but now he has one year left on his deal, so it should be Y now. Here's an offer no one is going to beat"

Collins and Clarkson contributed to losing a ton last year....

If that’s what happens then fine… the current rumors seem to indicate that is not the plan. I’m cool with rumors being rumors but I doubt it’s a tanking rouse.

You just said the rumors werent the issue......

What's the benefit of not being in rumors? You can go to Lauri and say "Hey, we tried to go out and acquire some guys, but these vets arent good enough for the price. You got to trust our process and next year we will be putting in assets to go get players after we get a top pick this yeart"

There is also an entire portion of the fan base that isnt pro-tank and wants to know the Jazz are at least thinking about making moves.
