Off-Season Rumblings

Here’s a history of the Balls in SLC:

Infection, this is f--king hilarious! Outstanding work!

I'm puzzled with the last four games the Jazz played and the lineups utilized. Were they just doing a solid for THT, Luka and Kira Lewis to give themselves some tape for other teams or overseas? Or did Ainge have something else in mind by trading the core for something and backfilling with these three? All three are relatively young and I must admit did not do badly in these games.

They were trying to lose.

Just thinking of a couple potential John Collins trade ideas revolved around the draft. Let me know what you think:

John Collins + 10 to San Antonio for Zach Collins + 8

John Collins + 10 + 29 to Detroit for 5
I wonder how the Pistons view Isiah Stewart now that their is a new front office. I wonder if a more palatable deal would be Collins for Stewart with the 10/5 swap. Just a thought.

If we are going the pump up Collins trade value then I think you continue starting him at center and feed him more PnR possessions. That means Walker gets pushed to the side a little. I honestly don't think Collins can have his trade value increase all that much. The on/off stuff was really bad but his individual season was a big improvement over his last year in Atlanta. He may increase his value but not by a lot. I just think JC/Sexton and John/Kessler are the pairings that aren't super simpatico so you move one from each group if the offers are good enough.

That first half of the season was really tragic for him. I do think NBA teams care about using more advanced analytics and the awful +/- will effect that. Having a good start of the season and establishing that what he did in the year of 2024 is his new norm without horrendous on/off numbers will go along ways.

I agree with the statement about changing his role. Starting with Kessler is one thing, the other issue with Collins in UTA is that we are not a PnR team at all so even if he was playing C he's doing the same thing in ATL. The amount of PnR possessions he got was the same as in ATL despite playing significantly more C. Hardy was pretty open about not even playing in a way that would produce wins, so maybe he will start to use Collins in a way that he is most useful. Either way, he has the ability to post massive numbers. and that will look good for him

And as with Sexton, I don't think John Collins is all about pumping up his trade value. He can be a good player. I think both are guys who questionable fits with any team, but they offer value as offensive options. I put Clarkson in another boat because I don't think he can be valuable to us in any scenario. For as much as people say JC's role was the issue, I think he's actually been in a near ideal situation to perform. He's just not that good anymore.
