Off-Season Rumblings

This paragraph particularly resonated with me because I agree with you where as others think we should do whatever possible to find the #1 guy first and we can’t build a decent roster in the meantime.

My argument has always been guys would be more willing to come here the more talent that was in place. HH argued that trading for someone like Brandon Ingram wouldn’t move the needle for someone like Giannis (hypothetically) but I think he absolutely would. I would love to hear others thoughts on this.
I think thinking high end players will flock to come to the Jazz if we had better roster is delusional. Stockton and Malone had trouble attracting high end players to join them. Rudy and Mitchell got us... Bojan... and a snub from freaking Nikola Mirotic. I think at this point we have to just assume no top tier player will want to come to Utah if he had any semblance of a choice. Doesn't mean you give up on trying to get them... but you definitely don't make decisions with the expectations that you will get anyone better than Bojan types. I.e. you don't get Ingram and Trae Young, expecting that in a year or two you will get ... I don't know... pick your choice of a player who you think would get us over the hump in FA(Tatum, Brown, Jamal Murray, Booker, etc)... Every single year there will be multiple teams that would be way ahead the Jazz on the totem pole of FA destinations, whether we have a good roster or not.

Well, that’s different than what I said and asked though.

This is the specific part I was responding to. Giannis is not coming to Utah because we have Brandon Ingram(i.e. because we have a 45 win team vs having a 25 win team). At least not on his own volition. Ingram is not moving the needle with any type of significance. The difference might be something like... 0.0001% vs 0.001%. You can say it's 10 times more likely but this doesn't tell you how likely it is. If you want to get a player of the caliber of Giannis you have to either trade for him or draft him.

A bit disingenuous when he snubbed the entire NBA to go to Europe.
Oh come on... we gave him the best offer. He snubbed us for Europe.

edit: BTW, I recently visited Barcelona for a week. Wow! What a city! I absolutely understand him wanting to play and live there...

If we’re trading for Giannis and it’s a done deal do you think he would rather play with Brandon Ingram and Lauri Markkanen or just Lauri Markkanen?

The right question is... if we trade for Giannis, would he rather play with Lauri Markkanen and Brandon Ingram or would he rather us have the assets we would spend for Ingram to trade for another player that best fits with Giannis and Lauri?

He snubbed the NBA. It's not relevant to the point you're trying to make.

For the price Ingram might come at you aren’t getting a better player. That’s a big part to the appeal of trading for Ingram right now.

Ingram is a poor value/money proposition. Having three of them immediately puts you in the second apron with a very limited ability to add quality role players. You essentially suggest replicating the current Suns.

The second apron has really changed everything. Going forward, the contenders will try to build around two stars + a mix of quality vets and young players on rookie contracts. Players like Ingram will be hit by this new reality the hardest.
