Official Draft Thread

Sounds like you agree with (former) coach Musselman, eh, Glass?:

"I often wonder why more teams don't use a team like Utah as an example. Utah drafts and signs players who fit Coach Sloan's system. The Jazz value intangibles like toughness and often-overlooked skills like screen-setting as an important element for their team to be successful."

Don't necessarily agree, but the FO is ultra-conservative. IMO, Jazz need to take the best player available who also has very good upside. Aldrich could very well be BPA, but IMO, he's very close to his ceiling. WYSIWYG with Cole. And I just don't think that's going to be enough to stop Gasol or Bynum. So you have to draft someone with better potential or make a serious upgrade at another position and hope to get a defensive center via trade (e.g. AK's expiring).

A three-question interview should determine the Jazz pick:

1. Define "jackpotting around."
2. Would you be offended by a coach constantly cussing and questioning your manhood?
3. Have you ever seen a John Deere tractor-pull competition?

Based on that, I think Coal probably has the advantage.

This is genius, you should be the new GM.

What does jack-potting mean? Is it what Brewer and CJ used to do with each other or something? What does this term mean? It surely doesn't sound right....

According to the Urban Dictionary, Jackpotting Around is:
Term popularized by Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan referring to goofing around, taking bad shots, trying to be flashy, and/or not paying attention.
"I was satisfied with the team's performance overall. Deron did a good job finding his teammates and everyone did a great job of getting to the basket. No one was jackpotting around out there."

What i'd be happy with:
Trading up to 6 to draft Cousins. Throw in the Memphis pick to get 'er done.
Trading Down to 12/25 with Memphis and picking Whiteside, Henry, or Davis at 12 and Gani Lawal or Warren at 25.
Trading down to 16/23 and doing the same as above.
Or, if we don't feel like our guy (hopefully Whiteside, Henry, or Davis) will be there at 12, just draft him at 9.

I think Trading down to 16/23 won't get the Jazz one of the guys they want. 16 is a lot further down than 12. The only one of those three that might be there if the Jazz did that is Whiteside. I can't really see Henry or Davis lasting that long.

I like Lawal; however, I'd prefer the Jazz just stay put and draft Ed Davis.

Lawal has always been on the brink of being great...Just hasn't put it together. Much like Tyrus Thomas, he's got all the tools - just not the feel. Davis would be nice, real nice. We're only a week out and I'm starting to waver a bit on my love for Babbitt. I keep thinking of Scott Padgett. But I think Babbitt is much more versatile, but who will he guard?

FYI, I am just talking to myself. Wasn't asking you that question per se.

Padgett and Babbitt aren't even remotely the same player.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with Lucifer. Er, I mean, David Stern (same thing, IMO).
