I've played at Gameface's poker games many times, with everybody on the current list. I've NEVER seen anybody get worked up about anything there. It's the most easy going event ever.
 
So do you want me to try and get my dad there? I've mentioned it, and he sounded interested, but wasn't sure if he had anything. I was also going to try to get another buddy there.

People that get worked up over a poker game with 20 dollars on the line would be some easily worked up dudes

This is great. Too bad I'm far away and can't be there but wish good luck to all participants.
A little tip to you all... be careful with playing JJ preflop. Because there are three ways to play JJ and all of them are wrong.

No kidding.

I will say, poker is a competitive endeavor. Texas Hold'em in particular is a game that combines skill and luck in a nearly perfect balance. It can be frustrating for people who've convinced themselves that they're so incredibly skilled that they get beaten by people they think got lucky. No one likes to lose.

But a few things I think I do that help keep that to a minimum. First, my games have dedicated dealers. That helps to keep errors down. It also helps that I'm very familiar with the rules, even the very tedious and technical ones. I will confidently decide a dispute in a reasonably short period of time. If things get complicated I have a complete set of rules (Robert's Rules of Poker, the most widely used set of poker rules in home games and casinos https://www.homepokertourney.com/roberts-rules-of-poker.htm) in hard copy for reference. I feel that following a common set of rules helps keep a friendly game (sort of like good fences make good neighbors). And finally, the stakes are relatively low and we're all there more to have a good time than to win a lot of money.

For me it's all about putting on a game that I'd want to play in. I've played in a lot of places, both casinos and home games. I've seen well run games and I've seen poorly run games, even poorly run games in casinos. I know what I want coming into a game and I try pretty hard to make sure my guests have a good experience. I really do take that seriously. I want to run a $100 or more buy-in game for $20. That's what I've done. Applied a very high standard to a reasonably priced game. I think even if a person was prone to getting worked up they'd have an easy time chilling out at my game. I really do believe that.

My last experience - last week I was playing in casino 20$ rebuy tourney....6 players were getting paid and I was short stack sitting in 6th place after 4 hrs of play knowing that I am at least getting 165$ back for my buy in and add on which is not to bad. So anyway, I am in small blind have 12k chips left, blinds are 4k and 8 k. Everybody calls, I have AQ suited... what the heck I will put in 4k more. Flop comes KQ3 everybody checks. Turn comes in Q, I have 4k chips left...sure I put my last chips in without hesitation. Dude with big stack calls and shows QK and I am out after river in my 6th place. Now small detail what I did not mention was that girl in BB had 1k chips left and got kicked out very next hand winning 65$ more than me...Had I not played that freaking AQ and just folded I would be 65$ richer or maybe something crazy would happened and I may have ended up even higher since table was dominated by one dude with super big stack and rest was kind of short or medium at best.
Moral of the story, sometimes it pays of to fold good hands no matter how tempting they are to play when other people are about to get kicked out. Poker requires concentration and attention to small details which is not easy to do after playing for 4-5 hrs or so. I just can imagine what kind of headaches people go through multi day tournaments, just crazy how disciplined you need to be to be successful.

Calgary. In theory I could, but that would mean huge fight at home with my wife as she works weekends and that would mean leaving her alone with kids for two days.
