What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

Quin Synder lead Missouri to four straight NCAA Tournament's and made the Elite 8 as well the farthest a Missouri team has ever gone. Won Rookie Coach of the Year by Basketball Times his first year at Missouri.

Was also the head coach for the NBADL Austin Torros. With them he made the D-Leage finals once, the semi-finals twice, won Coach of the Year as well. Has the most wins for a D-League coach ever in a 3-year span.

Was an assistant for Duke, the Clippers, 76ers, Lakers, Hawks, and CSKA Moscow.

Not a bad resume.. I wouldn't mind him. Anyone out of Longabardi, Messina, and Synder I would be fine with, tbh.

His name is Quin

This just in, anyone who might be capable of coaching at the NBA level is a candidate for the job currently.

Longabardi is 5'8.

Damn, if only there was a 5'8'' coach named Quin. The vacancy would already be filled.

OTR, got nothing against Quin Snyder, just remember him from growing up watching Big 12 basketball. Would be a major trip seeing him coach the good guyz.

I'm really indifferent to all these coaching possibilities because I know nothing of substance about any of them and assume the Lindseymeister will make the right decision.

This, tbh I will support anyone not named Jim Boylen.

I'm actually convinced it is going to be Messina. The Knicks are going to want somebody who can and will run the Triangle, primarily because Phil Jackson is an egotist. That will probably be Kerr, with an outside shot at Fisher. The only worry I have about us not getting Messina is the Lakers because he is probably the one coach worth something that would relish the idea of working with broken down Kobe. Freaking Kobe even speaks Italian and has worked with Messina before. That worries me.

Now would the Laker faithful be OK with Messina? Nobody on their boards seem to know anything about him, so for them the hire would be from left field. Normally I would assume that they would keep D'antoni around for another year to tank, but I don't think they have a draft pick available, so they need to win now and build cred for Free Agents. Does Messina's cred help them attract any free agents in 2016? If no, then I suspect they may be more in the market for a sexier domestic name, or a college rising star. If they want a college guy, Shaka Smart would look really good on their bench, and would generate a Hollywood Buzz. . .

There is a reason Messina hasn't been hired by an NBA team yet, and my take is because he would be too much of a "project" for most NBA teams with a decent fan base that has a "win now" strategy (Knicks, Lakers, etc), therefore Messina isn't well suited as it would likely take him 2-3 years to really hit his strides (first learning how to adapt his strategy to NBA players, then perfecting his strategy, etc).

I think the Millers family is such a unique owner that would take a punt on someone like Messina long term, provided that Messina gives the Jazz Org. a long term commitment. I think they really wanted Ty to be that guy (when Ty was hired, Gail was nearly brought to tears when she said that she really wanted Ty to carry on the tradition and be with the Org. for a long time). Unfortunately I just don't think Ty has what it takes as an NBA coach. By all accounts, Messina definitely has what it takes, it's just whether or not he can adapt what he has to the NBA style/culture.
