What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

My biggest reason is, I think if Stockton wanted to rise through the ranks, he would have started already. I think he'll consider the job if he's the man. If not, he'll just stay home, run the bar, and coach when he wants to with who he wants to.

He wanted to watch his kids play college basketball though. I think they all have graduated now. He might have 1 kid who is in middle school or something.

Knowing how humble and down to earth person Stockton is, I wouldn't be all that surprised if he accepted a lower rank than HC. It's a safer career move also, if things don't go well, his legacy wouldn't get hurt as it would comparing to a possible failing as the head coach. And I don't see why any head coach candidate wouldn't want to work with him, it does not necessarily mean the new HC would be just a stair for Stockton to step on later.

The all issue is, to me, whether if he is willing to take to plunge and cruise to the new territories now, as he often states the opposition of that.

Just heard on 1280 that DL is going to interview John Stockton for our head coaching position. Can you imagine the guff DL would get if he ever had to fire John Stockton? Would we take down the statue if Stockton was as bad as Ty? Would John Stockton ever give an interview as head coach? Would he teach Trey to be a real point guard? The questions are endless.

Stockton was one of the smartest basketball players of all time. No way would he pull a Ty. If he said yes, it would be as if a comet collided with Jazz Nation. No way you could take another coach over him. I'd have supreme confidence in him, and you know just by his reputation, so would the players.

Boylen? Stockton? The Van Gundys?

This.

Ill be very disapointed if any of these people get hired as our head coach. JVG is the most boring coach I could think of. He runs the slowest offense that is terrible. SVG is just a side show attraction not a head coach. There is a reason no team seriously wants them anymore. Stockton was a great player. He has no coaching experience and does not seem to have a personality for it. He did not even call plays when he was on the court, he looked to Sloan for that. On top of that he seems like someone that will be a players coach and I think after TY I would prefer to go the other way.

I've watched great amount of Stockton games and videos and I can say that's one of the least correct propositions I've ever heard in my life.

Stockton has no coaching history. We cannot gamble with this pick. It is crucial to get it right. That excludes Stockton.

To be a good coach you need to have street smarts and be pretty savvy. If you look at all the good coaches now from Phil Jackson to Pop to Doc, they are pretty savvy.

Nothing against Stockton but he's just a bit too 'honest' and 'true' to me. Hornacek at least seems to have some savviness to him.

Stockton never liked to give interviews, he did very little community service,
he was not a big talker, he always did very little for the Jazz.
He did nothing a good coach should.
Maybe only exception Belechick.
