Official UofU homer thread

Um, a guaranteed sellout and an RPI boost by beating an NCAA tourney team nearly every year.
The sellout makes no difference for me. The RPI boost is minimal. I'd much rather play a different team with similar RPI. And I'm not interested in playing them in football either. Just bad blood and very little to gain.

That's fair. Nothing to gain by playing many of the schools they play in the pre conference schedule, but I guess at least you don't have the bad blood.

I guess I should have expected that this reached and was included in this thread, I was hoping not but understand that it should be I guess since it is Ute related.

I'm glad that JM12 brought up the Utah State thing, while I don't quite have the same exact opinions on everything in that post I definitely have been saying that too myself when ever I hear someone crying about it, which has been non stop since it broke. I understand their fans being upset that's what fans are supposed to do, I would put up with a little negativity and slander and let it slide as just fans being emotional and it being a rivalry game. I myself was initially surprised by the hole thing and knew there would be tons of back lash and negativity BUT to go on and on and on and on to the extent it has on the local radio.... now I'm glad they did it just because of how local media and fans (even if they may be the vocal minority but in this case it doesn't seem like it) and their teams employees and administration.

I think the first reason was because they saw that it seemed to have helped the football game and thought it could have the same affect to the basketball game but again after the reaction I'm starting to wonder if the close secondary reason was just to troll the local media and their fan base and their administration/employees. Here let me help, CRY HARDER maybe it will change things, I feel like I'm having to listen to a spoiled kid throw a temper tantrum in the middle of the store because their parents put away their candy or toy they wanted. *This is more directed towards what I've heard outside this thread not inside, by the media and fans and reports from their teams employees*

I even heard on the radio one of the hosts say convenient timing because they don't want to go the Provo and play, if it would've stopped there I would've been like ok not true and manipulative but that could just be his opinion but then it was followed up with a 'because they're afraid' and then a not that they might or could might they lose but stating they would lose so matter of factly that well, whether he believed it or was intentionally slandering the U to draw a reaction, that well, it did I turned the station, there was no point in calling in. Ute fans are in a no win situation, they call in to respond to that then they are told see you do care about the rivalry why this and why that why why (sounds an awful lot like crying), if they do not call in we all get told see even their fans know they're wrong. So you know what... I guess it worked because when I first heard while surprised I couldn't really careless and now it has changed to I could careless, however that will change back to couldn't careless right after this post.

Nowhere am I hearing how in football Utah's last game was played in Provo, as stated previously nowhere am I hearing about Utah St, nowhere am I.... you know what I just reached back to couldn't careless status so doesn't matter.

I'll close it with this I'm sorry that so many of their fans are hurt by this and I hope they can find it within themselves to put the hurt and trauma past them, or if you can't then cry harder and have your fans and employees continue to act like spoiled brats. At the very least this put a change in the month long local news cycle that has been nothing but non stop talk about that teams coaches leaving, to potential coaches hired to talking about the coaches being hired and so and and so forth (if this announcement soul reason was just to break that then it is worth it).

I think this controversy is ****ing hilarious. The game is pointless, the rivalry is dyeing. Just let it end, I don't want the Utes to play BYU anymore, there is no reason to. The fact that this controversy started because BYU started whining about it is hilarious. Oh No, they don't want to play us anymore, feel bad for us. If you didn't want the game cancelled then refuse a buyout clause in the contract. Dave Rose comes off as a whinny little bitch in the media regarding this "controversy". A controversy he started by whining about it. "Our school wouldn't pay that buyout that's a lot of money"...HAHAHA, maybe to a lowly WCC school it is a lot of money, but the buyout was supposedly $50,000 that is nothing to Utah.
.
Just end the series between these 2 schools, Utah should just finish up any contract they have with that school, or buy them out, and never deal with them again.

A couple of things:

1. Isn't BYU's RPI pretty darn bad this year? If I remember correctly I saw that they are pretty close to IPFW in RPI. If that's the case, they won't provide much of a boost.

2. Larry K paid the $80,000 buyout out of his own pocket.

Do you have a link for #2? I haven't seen this in all the stuff I've read about it.

The only thing I've heard about it is that it's rumored. I haven't heard anything concrete.

Sorry, I don't have a link.

Chris Hill stated it in the press conference from yesterday. I think you can pull up the recording somewhere.

It's a shame that such an old rivalry is ending or skipping a few years. There are better ways to solve the ugliness of the rivalry. Utah doesn't need to play byu to help them out but the same could be said of byu. they both can easily find similar level of competition to fill the game. Byu is down this year but normally is a solid basketball team with a good rpi. Utah is on the way up and hopefully getting back to their glory days. On a side note Larry must have something personal against byu or hoping this will get the players more on his side because paying that much out of pocket to not play one game a year is crazy. Also Chris hill claiming more or less they are too good to do home and home with any local teams is crazy. Plenty of much bigger better programs do home and homes with the local teams and with their own in state rivals. Utah would do well to move on from Chris hill imo.

That said BYU really needs to do something about their players taking cheap shots and need to shake that from their image. Utah is not the only team that complains about their cheap shots.

I could not agree more with all of that. I personally don't buy the "safety of the players" excuse. Not being the whole reason, anyway. It probably plays a part in it. But I truly believe Utah is big timing BYU.
