Utah officials say defensive playmaker Brian Blechen has been suspended three games for violating undisclosed team rules.

The junior safety will miss the Aug. 30 opener against Northern Colorado plus the Utah State game on Sept. 7, and the Sept. 15 matchup with rival Brigham Young.

I'm one of those guys that likes to see teams I root for face opposition that is at full strength, but that certainly doesn't hurt BYU's chances. I think that shaggy-haired QB that can wing it a lot better than people give him credit for is dreaming of throwing jump balls to Hoffman in the middle of the field all day long in that game now.

Good move by Coach Whit to only suspend Blechen during our non BCS part of the schedule. Sends the right message without risking any losses. Nice.
 
Austin Lee was just over working on his coverage skills. He is very good. He looks and gets better every time I see him.

I get a different message, and I'm sure Blechen is smart enough to get it too. I'm suspending you because I have to or I will get into trouble. I care more about winning than whatever it was you did though. It fits right in with the way "BCS" teams handle the soft punishments they give out.

On a side note, I don't know what he did or didn't do so for all I know 3 games is harsh.

From what I have read it was for smoking weed. The Utes policy i think is that the first time you're caught it's a warning, 2nd time it's a suspension for 25% of the season and the 3rd time you're off the team. So really it didn't come down to a decision at all, just policy.

Nice, then it worked out nicely.

I'm surprised the policy is not that they get kicked off anytime they are caught without a big fattie.
