He had a -0.2 DBPM and a -0.1 DBPM his 1st and 2nd year.

Those are good DBPM for a young guy on a team with a poor defensive identity.

KAT, DLo and Edwards look like Mutombo, Bruce Bowen and Rodman compared to our squad last year.

Rudy was clearly the most important player on our team and everything was molded around him. In Minnesota they will likely build around what suits KAT/Edwards before they take Rudy's strengths into account.

The Wolves were literally one of the worst defensive teams in the league until Vanderbilt stepped into a bigger role and Bev took over as their starting PG and even then they were slightly above average.

When you compare teams you can't just go down the board and say who's better individually to determine which team is/will be better.

Fit and chemistry are both extremely important and often overlooked factors. Quin Snyder did an amazing job of building our system, both offensively and defensively around Rudy and his strengths. He's now like 2nd, arguably 3rd in the pecking order in Minny so will they do the same?

The Wolves played at the fastest pace in the league last season and were like 28th in half court offense. How will Rudy's game fit into that type of play style and how do KAT/Rudy fit together on both ends? I'm not a huge fan because I think it will require KAT to play almost exclusively on the perimeter offensively especially since McDaniels isn't a great shooter and he'll have to defend smaller guys in space a ton too.

KAT, DLo, and Edwards are all meh defensively too so I'm not sure how much different it will be there for him.

Ahh yes, Chemistry, the thing that ultimately made the Jazz fail to meet expectations because they sucked so much *** in the chemistry department.

It will be tough for the Wolves to have less chemistry than the Jazz did.

The Jazz had a well oiled machine where everyone could run it together to complete basic task, but malfunctioned at the slightest adversity.

Donovan averages a -0.1 DBPM for his career. I just don’t really see these as good numbers.

I believe we could have traded off DM for win now pieces and assets that could parlay into further roster balancing. We may have had less total talent but better distributed and moving away from some problematic mentality issue, not to pin all of it in Donovan, but a new coach, moving Don, then shuffling out a couple other guys would have made a big difference. We may not yield a single lottery pick from the Gobert deal. It sounds sexy because it’s 4 picks and a swap.

I know... but its 4 picks, a swap, and also expiring contracts or guys on rookie/cheap deals. They cleared the cap of a 4 year 123M deal that may not age well. Normally you get 4 quarters for your dollar and walk away a little meh... we got like 6 quarters for the dollar. Vando and Beverly i believe can easily be flipped for another good first... maybe more. Kessler - who knows... I'm not a big fan. Beasley is a nice reclamation project and even has a team option if he works out... which increases his trade value if he has a good first half of the year.

Trading Don for win-now pieces doesn't change the fact that Ingles is ded, Mike is aging, Royce stopped playing defense, and Bogey is still awesome but has maybe 2 more awesome years? If we would have filled the pipeline a bit more you could justify a pivot but the pipeline is beyond empty. It was the right move imo even if it doesn't yield a lotto pick.

I truly feel like these deals where a million unprotected picks are thrown out in a yolo trade will start to disappear as the checks start coming due.

Yeah because Donovan is propped up by the GOAT. Numbers got noise. You cant just look at them and know anything., You have to have the context.

What you’re saying doesn’t make sense. The problem is that I don’t believe you realize it doesn’t make sense. The Wolves don’t have to build **** around Gobert. The fact that Quin allowed everyone else to coast on defense and have “Rudy lol” as the only defensive strategy was part of our downfall. Not because of Rudy but in spite of him. That’s one reason for optimism in Miinesota because the rest of the team isn’t conditioned to think “I don’t need to do **** because Rudy will do it.”

I think a lot of the Jazz shortcomings were due to Rudy/Quin being so damn elite during the regular season that they were able to cover up a lot of holes that we had.

Guys like DLo and KAT aren't exactly known to be hard nosed, tough players that battle through adversity.

I think the two biggest keys for them next year will be the development of Edwards and McDaniels. If Edwards can solidify himself as a top tier level player and McDaniels takes a leap they can be really, really good. If they just stay relatively the same I think they'll be somewhere between 6-9 in the West and likely fizzle out in the 1st or 2nd round.

IDK, I'm super high on Edwards. I think he has a shot at being a top 20 guy. At the very least I think he has one more sizeable jump in his game to get on the consistent 25 ppg on decent efficiency level.

I'm not 100% certain he will be better than Mitchell, but I think he's got a really great chance. Plus he has the legitimate size to be a "turn it on" kind of defender unlike Mitchell.

He has it in him for sure... just not sure if that happens in the next year or two. I think they have a lot of potential... but don't see them as a top 3 team in the Western conference yet (though they may finish there record wise).
