#OscarsSoWhite - Thoughts?

Also not totally related but what about....

#NBA_ALL_STARS_STARTERS_So_Black ????!!!???!!!

Obviously we need a quota system where at least 1 white guy should get voted in each year to balance out the #OscarsSoWhite issue/strike.

You do realize that there are other sports, several of which are dominated by whites? Hockey, soccer, swimming, skiing, etc.

If, however, you can point to evidence of systemic bias against white b-ball players, I'd be interested in seeing it. It may exist, who knows? I suspect there is some 'racial profiling' going on where it comes to, say, football, where it comes to different skill positions. Year ago, for example, I remember Mark Bellini, WR for BYU, commenting that he faced racial profiling in the NFL, which he felt pigeonholed him as a 'possession' (aka white) receiver. For years, Black quarterbacks faced it, as did, I think, black coaches. If, such racial profiling does exist, in either direction, then I believe no less that the system needs to be reformed, just like I think the system is most likely such that it produces bias in handing out Oscars.

Like so many things, its the institutions that need reforming, often people are just operating under the rules established by the institution, and are not inherently biased, although sometimes they are biased, whether because the institution corrupts them that way, or through a process of self-selection by which people of a particular bent are attracted to institutions that share their values.

No but this isn't even a stressing issue IMO. It's throwing a temper tantrum IMO.

If you're a Black actor, director, producer, etc. in Hollywood, I suspect that this issue takes on more relevance than for, say, someone like us? Perhaps even a more stressing issue?

Perhaps but I have a hard time feeling their pain as they wipe their tears with $1,000 bills.

Also I still think this is a temper tantrum. And the solution of quotas isn't a solution. It's makeup on a pig.

Making a lot of money does not make one immune to the normal human desires for recognition, respect, fair treatment, equity, etc.

I think I've been clear that I am not advocating quotas.

Kit Ramsey has been saying this for years.

Quotas was more general for the thread.

You'll have a hard time convincing anyone that Will Smith (among many other black actors and actresses) isn't respected and treated fairly in contrast with his peers.

Basically it has an element of "poor me" when they are on top of the world. At least to me.

So while I recognize injustice and systemic racism is a very real problem I don't feel bad for anyone on this specific issue.

They receive their fair share of recognition and respect.

I think we're talking more about generalities here than specifics, right?
