Parker vs Gordon video analysis. Must watch

If you want Parker, you probably have to trade up into the top 3. I personally don't see him falling to 4, much less 5. They have the assets to try to do that if they want to. I wouldn't give up any of our players to do it, but draft picks are fair game. Parker would give the team the scoring threat that is very needed.

If they don't trade up for Parker/Wiggins, then they need to sit tight and see who is sitting there at 5 after the smokescreens are all blown away. I wouldn't be surprised to see Exum and/or Vonleh move up into the top 3 or 4 picks. There's just no way of knowing which teams will fall in love with which players and who will be willing to put together a trade to move up.

I'm personally a fan of Arron Gordon at 5, but I think you could make a compelling case for any of Exum, Gordon, Vonleh, Smart or Randle.

I wouldn't say that Gordon was that much more athletic than Parker based on this video -- Arizona often was doubling up on Parker, as well.

But but but...

Gordon has cool dunks and isn't Mormon!

Parker is Mormon! And goes to Duke! So obviously he's gonna suck, right?

Parker is so much better than Gordon it's silly to even discuss them.

I dont think meenie was discussing who the better player is..... i think his post was about who is more athletic.

I'm not hung up, I just think it's an important indicator. Name some players in the NBA who shoot low 40's from the free throw line but consistently knock down 3 PT shots. He may well turn out to be the best of the second group, but I think his shooting is a legitimate concern.

I'm not going to dig through a bunch of stars to figure this out. I will say that Scottie Pippen was bad at free throws initially and then got better. Here in San Antonio Bruce Bowen was pretty good at threes but a bad free throw shooter.

If you watch Gordon play you will see that his free throw has a different release than his jump shot. I think with a shooting coach and some work this 18 year old kid can improve free throws.

If you were to dig, I think you'd find it's pretty rare. Bowen is a good example, but Pippin was a 70% free throw shooter in college. Even Bowen shot 54%. I'm not saying he can't become a decent shooter. It's just that his free throw % has got to be a concern. He doesn't have the ability right now to space the floor. If he's going to play the 3 teams have to respect his perimeter game. I like everything else about him though.

Agree it's a concern. Point I am trying to make us this year when teams played off of him he hit the open shot. He does not shoot a lot of jumpers, and I don't like the idea of him shooting consented jumpers. But when defenders sagged he made them pay.

I think I'm down to hoping for him or Vonleh now.

A legit concern would be teams hacking him. You seem to be completely ignoring the fact that his J is fine. I totally had this prob when I was a kid. I could shoot a J and would brick a ft. Why? because I didn't practice shooting FTs. I suspect that the thing Gordon needs is more hours at the line/shooting coach.

His J is not fine.
.86 PPP on catch and shoot
.66 PPP on shots off the dribble
10/34 on jump shots
45.3 FT%
51.4 2P% ranks 17th among PF's
.
He struggles to create his own shot. He's hit some open 3's but that will be tougher to do in the NBA. He's really raw offensively.

I'll nit pick here. He's a 3. Started that way at AZ until Brandon Ashley got hurt.

Btw, his shooting form has already improved a lot. Looks like he knows his week was as well and is working on it.

You're talking about a kid that had No J in high school and he knows it. By the end of the year his shooting mechanics had definitely improved. We will see if he can continue that trend and if he can do the same for his FT. I think he will.
