Paul George will sign extension with the Celtics...only if Hayward signs too

I actually think Utah would have a better chance to sign Paul George than Boston and here is why:

Paul George was close friends with George Hill and neighbors, they would carpool to games and hang out together.

Paul George and Hayward would play pickup games all the time and became friends. Of course Hayward is from Indiana and PG played for Indiana so they seen each other often. Also just recently Paul George said he would like to play on the same team as Hayward.

Paul George would practice and play pickup games with Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell also talks highly of Paul George and how George helped him on his game. They got along really well.

Then top it off with the best defensive center and rim protector in the league in Gobert.

Utah wouldn't have to gut their team as much to create the cap space needed as much as Boston would to make it happen.

Utah is a lot closer to LA than Boston, and Utah makes many more trips to LA per year playing the Clippers and Lakers. LA is only a 75 minute flight and if he wants nightlife Vegas is only a 60 minute flight.

Btw if Jazz get PG then they get Hayward and Hill too. Problem is Utah is too conservative to make such a big risky move like that. If you look at the reports coming out they mention all the top teams who had been in talks with Indy and the list includes (Spurs, Rockets, Cavs, Clippers, Celtics). Every list excludes the Utah Jazz. All those other teams know what it takes to be a championship team.

Clippers have no idea how to be a championship team, but I agree that PG would be exciting to have on the Jazz.

If I were Indi, I would think that getting Exum or Hood plus Favors for a one year rental of PG is pretty good. If I were the Jazz, I would give PG a chance considering he wants to play for the Jazz.

What leads you to believe PG wants to play for the Jazz?

Damn it Jazz, just go for it. Pull the trigger and take a big risk on PG13.

Trade Hood (who we probably can't afford anyways after next season) Diaw and picks for him. Offer them next year's first from us and another pick with small protections or the OKC pick. Hood is better than most players being offered, Diaw clears up space for them or they can use him for a salary dump deal to get another asset like Brooklyn did. Plus a couple picks that probably won't hurt us much to lose.

After that trade is done the combination of George and hopefully our roster healthy and also improved from internal development we can be a 60+ win team easily. We can push GS and we could even win if we get lucky. Especially if one of their fragile players like Durant or Curry goes down. Take a chance for once. It's not even that big of a risk. We will be fine if PG leaves after next year anyways and in the same boat, which is looking for another star or hoping someone on the roster turns into a star like Exum or Mitchell.

Believe that your franchise is good enough to keep George and is a premier team that can sign big name free agents like Lindsey has been claiming for the last couple years. Don't play it safe to be a middle of the pack team.

I wonder if this will happen.

There is another thread talking about this... Woj tweeted it... which means it is legit being discussed. I'm sad.

Rumor of what Boston is offering for PG13

From Andy Kaufman

To clarify any confusion, that's LAL/SAC pick from PHI + '19 MEM OR LAC pick + Jae Crowder + $$ filler. #Celtics

So from what I can tell that LAL/Sac pick is some weird protection where they only get it if LAL land between #2 and #5 pick other wise it becomes the 19' Sac pick with #1 protection. So that could be a good pick unless Sac gets better by then. The other pick will probable not be great unless LAC blow things up. I still think the Jazz can beat that offer or at least get close enough that Indiana will take the deal now instead of taking a chance on Boston getting Hayward.

With the lowered cap wont Boston have to dump another player to have enough room to sign Hayward?

they will most likely have to get rid of Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart

Horford 28m
Hayward 30m
PG3 20m
IT 7m
Brown 5m
