Does that also apply to trades? Not sure how old you are, but would you have stopped being a fan of the Stockton/Malone teams because Utah traded for Hornacek? Not exactly, no. There's a difference between seeing something in a college or high school player and bringing them up through your system and paying big money for a hired gun that's already won championships for two other teams. It's just hard for me to get excited for that, sorry. It's not the way I want to win.
It would be a great feather in Lebron's cap, no doubt. I'm not as down on Hayward as others in this forum, but one thing that bothered me was the talk of going to "a team with a winning tradition." Wouldn't winning a championship for a team that's not had one despite having two of the best players of all time be a much better accomplishment that earning yet another trophy for Boston, the team that has the most in the NBA?
How about now...are you not a fan because Lindsey went out and signed Rubio?
Very few teams are primarily organic. Even SA, which has drafted extremely well, still has supplemented their stars with key acquisitions. GS, Houston, OKC, Boston, Toronto, Cleveland: all those teams added at least one of their stars via trade or free agency.
