Poker Fools Day 4-1 @ 8pm -- Poker Tournament rnd 2

Franklin, can you shed some light on this? Can you explain why they felt entitled to open carry into someone's house they didn't know without mentioning it? Everyone I talked to thought it was beyond unusual, and these were mostly gun owners and gun rights advocates.

Jesus. If those two gun wielders come back and all that **** really went down the last two times, I'm down for the next one.

Only one of the two Gun Smokes had a gun permit. The other one used the, "Utah is open carry" line. I'm gonna show up to Gameface's house with a bazooka next time.

Utah is open carry. You are free to open carry in public places. However, if a store owner doesn't want you to open carry in thier establishment they can ask you to leave. If there is a sign posted saying "No Guns" then you cannot open carry there. I would assume a person would have the sense to consult with a homeowner before open carrying in the man's house during a social gathering.

Anyway, going forward guns are not allowed at the poker game. If anyone feels uncomfortable with that they don't have to come over. The other alternative I see is that I forego drinking during the game and pack my own handgun, along with my good friend who suffered a few insults at the beginning of the game, and invite a few more of my gun lovin' buddies over for the game and station my wife and brother-in-law in opposite corners with shotguns. I prefer not to be outgunned in my own basement, especially by people I've never met. Had it not been well into the game before I noticed I would have asked them to leave the guns in their car. By the time I did see they were packin' I didn't really see the point.

The more I think about it the more it's bugging me. I'd really like to know what they were thinking.

I've been pretty...I'd guess I'd go so far as to say careless by inviting internet strangers over to my house for a poker game. Maybe I need to rethink the way I go about this. I typically rely on the fact that most people are decent and a good portion of the players in the first game were friends, family and coworkers. this last game I wasn't feeling 100%, only got a couple hours of sleep the night before and most of my coworkers dropped out. So there was the potential for things to get out of my control, which is not okay with me. I've organized more than a couple poker tournaments but I'm a little out of practice. In my eagerness to fill up the game I took chances that I shouldn't have. Not that anyone crossed any lines, but the potential for problems was too great for my comfort.

I'll figure out how I want to do things before the next game.

You all noticed how many times I had to ask Lavida Loca to scoot over, right? I really can't help it that she wanted to ride The Trout's mustache, but she'll have to wait in line just like everyone else.

FWIW, I liked the sober guy who was packing, and wasn't intimidated by his firearm at all. I thought the evening went off like a 70's porno. I would love to play again in a few weeks, but I'm not sure if Mrs. Trout is too keen on me losing another twenty five bucks. I'll keep you posted.

I liked the sober guy who was packing...

I thought he was a nice guy and conducted himself very well, too. But I understand Gameface's concerns, and I think he is completely correct to tighten up on this. I never worried about any of those guys, at any point. But it wasn't my house, either. Hopefully GF is more comfortable with the us (the JF guys) and feels like he knows us a little better now, after a couple of games. I really enjoy playing, and would hate to see GF shut it down.

Gameface: You need to print out a copy of those rules and give them to La Chica Loca, highlighting the half of them that apply directly to her.

You're right GF--that's total ********. I didn't know either of them were packing at the time.
We (the winner, the bigger guy, and me) went to Denny's afterward and the bigger guy had his gun hanging out plenty visible. I called him out on it.
Maybe they were afraid of getting raped over $20. *******.

along with my good friend who suffered a few insults at the beginning of the game

I hope you're not talking about me telling your friend I was cool with him being gay. He seemed fine and we shook hands at night's end. At the time I did not know he just got done having fun on the hood or in the back seat of a car. I hope he Purelled.
