Police Power and Racial Tensions in Ferguson, Missouri

There is now a state of emergency in Ferguson. There is not any rioting, nor threats to riot, nor any sort of disaster. The reason is that the grand jury testimony is due back soon, and the governor is so worried that there might be a bad reaction that he wants to keep the National Guard on active duty, right now, possibly for the next two weeks. He seems to think black people are so dangerous, they constitute an emergency when they are waiting for a grand jury result.

I suppose that's cheaper than actually attempting to fix the injustices behind the anger in the first place.

still waiting for the decision apparently...

wonder what that portends? anyone reading any tea leaves on this?

Your post seems to imply that the problems behind this anger are fixable by the time the decision on wether to charge the officer is released. We both know that the issues and reasons behind this anger will take this nation years, decades, of concerted effort to "fix". Hope it was not intentional to imply that one gov. can fix this whole issue so easily.

In the meantime the Gov. absolutely has a responsibility to protect his citizens and their property. Having the National Guard ready is absolutely the right move. These protests have to some degree been subverted by elements looking to cause trouble, on both sides of the issue. It has already proven, repeatedly, to flare up into violence. Both sides are to blame for that. SHould the Gov. ignore that very realist posibility? Pffft

This post smacks of extreme bias to me. Sad to see. Also nowhere did you point out that in that order the Ferguson police are removed froom policing any protests and riots that might occur as a result of the verdict.

There have been 7 eye witnesses that stated Wilson executed Brown with his hands up (including two white construction workers). They've declared a state of emergency over riots that haven't happened. Anonymous has uncovered many members of Missouri PD who are part of the KKK in the wake of the KKK saying they're ready to go to war with protesters.

I am praying Wilson is indicted, and tried. But the bigger issue that Brown's death uncovered is just as important as justice for Mike Brown, or the countless others who have been NEEDLESSLY killed by police officers abusing the badge. The bigger issue is the systemic and institutionalized racism all over the country that many white people are uncomfortable with acknowledging because of a warped sense of guilt. Even if someone isn't directly contributing to or perpetuating these deplorable truths of the USA, denying it's existence because they aren't guilty themselves is almost as dangerous.

With the way the masses in the USA consume news (using that word loosely) these problems that have existed since the country's inception are coming to light to an exponentially larger amount of people than ever before - thus real change can be made thanks to power in numbers.

The most depressing thing about all of this to me is that Obama has been such a politician regarding the Brown case, but the way the state/county handled the aftermath. All that "change" BS from his original campaign is finally proven to be a hoax. I bought it, and the millions of Americans who cried in joy upon his election and inauguration did as well. But he's no different than George W. Bush. It's just further proof that the executive branch is nothing more than a collection of corporate puppets. The federal government is owned by corporations who want to maintain control of the wealth/power, and state reps are hardly servants to their respective districts.

Nothing will change unless the government decides to shift all the focus it puts on profiting off the incarceration of black kids to taking everyone's iPhone away for good. Then the public will really revolt.

Gov. Nixon appointed 16 people to a commision tasked with "making recommendations to fix social and economic inequalities in Ferguson".

They inlcude "...local clergy, a youth activist and law enforcement officials as well as business people". They have until 09/2015 to make their recomendations.

So basically it looks like the Gov. of MO is looking at all sides of the issue and not just going after the black man as portrayed here in a couple of the last few posts.

Shocker...

Just stop. No one is calling YOU racist. Defending Nixon, Wilson or quite frankly anyone affiliated with law enforcement in that county/state is going to make you look really stupid when the truth comes to light.

Do some googling of Anon/KKK/Ferguson/Missouri and what's come to light in the last couple weeks.

Your posts are bordering on the asinine now. I won't google about that last sentence as I already accounted for them in post 556. Part of the reason I am glad that the Gov. was proactive here. Also no where in the post you quoted, or the several before that, did I ever imply or reference any attack agaisnt me. Let alone one based on racism.

I don't have to wait for you to look foolish as you have all along.

You're too dense to understand what I write. Regardless, there is NO reason to assume the protesters will be violent. They never have been. They've only been attacked by the police. Those who looted weren't part of the organized protest. Gov. Nixon is a vile, racist, corrupt piece of **** and that's the bottom line.
