Bringing KO back made sense since he helps move the ball which will make everyone better.

Bringing Clarkson back made sense with the type of contract we signed him to, he is very movable.

Both seem to be A+ locker room guys, so there doesn't seem to be a lot of risk to moving in different directions at some point in the season if that's what we prioritize.

I think the fact that guys like Hendricks and George made it to the nba means that they are very competitive. I also think that there would still be competition for minutes if KO and Clarkson were not on the roster. Hendricks would still be competing with collins, lauri, ochai (some small forward minutes) sensabaugh (same) and George would still be competing with sexton, tht, dunn, and ochai. They would both also be competing against their opponents and trying to be as good as possible to get their next, bigger, contract.
Me personally, I wish that we didn't re-sign clarkson (though I like him and think he is a good player) and wish that KO wasn't on the roster. It is what it is though and having them around makes us a deeper and more competitive team so im good with that since I want to make the playoffs this season. Dont think we would be much worse in the short term without either dude though and might be better in the long term. Its all good to me.

Also consider this: what if some team (like Mavs) crashes and burns and a star/superstar comes available. Would you think of JC/KO differently then?

Thats where the sight is set. Building fully through youth is plan B.

Maybe you and Cy (not surprisingly) didnt read all of my short post.

I was simply saying that while that is true, I think that our rookies would still have competition even if those players weren't there and that it COULD be better for the long term to not have those players on the roster (due to the younger guys being able to get more consistent minutes sooner)

I'm with you, but I see the other side of this and it's just the reality of the modern NBA. Winning isn't really a priority unless you can win the whole thing. I despise it, but that's what the league is like right now. And while there is some benefit to playing with veteran players, I understand taking the position of wanting to just play the young guys minutes instead of them "learning" while sitting on the bench behind these guys.

The minutes for the rookies will work itself out over time. All of them are 19, not 22, so I don't think it's raises any concerns if they are sitting early. Clarkson, KO, Collins ect....These are all good players. I don't think they will all be here 2-3 years from now, but they aren't bad players to have around in the mean time. I'm still iffy on the idea of them blocking the young players' time, but like I said, I think that situation will work itself out over time. I'm not too pressed about it. I felt more strongly about this last year when I thought we might actually tank, but at this point Lauri is too good to allow that to happen.

I don't have an issue with George and Hendricks sitting early but from a long term team building stand point I think it is important to get them consistent minutes at some point so we have something to evaluate them on going into next offseason. Worst case scenario is having them rot on the bench or in the gleague all year and having no idea if they look like future rotation guys for us. The funny thing is that I view Sensabaugh as the more surefire rotation guy because of his shooting skillset. If he's healthy then he has a definite role off the bench as a sniper/instant offense guy.

I'm a believer that giving guys too many minutes can be bad for their development if they are not ready for them. I think it's best to start rookies out with about 10 minutes per game and adjust from there as they are ready. I don't think KO or JC are preventing George or Hendricks from getting 10 minutes per game, so I don't really see it as a problem for their development.

I don't think building fully through youth is any part of any plan for DA

Brook lopez played about 32 minutes per game in his first 5 seasons. In those 5 seasons he had zero three point attempts. His 6th, 7th, and 8th seasons he averaged 0.1, 0.1, and 0.2 three point attempts per game. Brook lopez took a long time to become brook lopez. You writing off Kessler being able to shoot like Lopez after one season is classic.

It's about the same chance as brook lopez had when he entered the league.
(Actually Kessler attempted more threes and shot a better percentage than lopez did in college so Kessler has an even better chance )

Yeah I did read it. Just wanted to throw out that if a big trade opportunity comes sooner than we expect, then having JC and KO around is great since we surely need to give up some of those young players that we put the development effort on.
