Predictions for Mitchell's Progress for Next Season

I hope he can add a floater to his game. With a little better shot selection and better efficiency, plus getting more calls, I can see him getting 26 to 27 points.

He already has a floater and his range is ridiculously deep.

Anyway, too early to make prediction - roster changes first please. I do think he will improve to at least 36% from 3 and get to the line 2 more times per 100 possessions early on and up to 3 more the final couple of months.

I would like to see him continue to progress from the role he was put in after Ricky went down. I would like it if he was the primary backup at the 1 and took this offseason working on his vision and passing. Kid's scoring prowess isn't going anywhere, but if he can turn a lot of the attention he gets into assists or trips to the line, this team is significantly better off of those two things alone.

That'll be more on QS than DM imo. He'll need to create more open space for DM to operate in. HOU killed his rim attacking at times with more bodies in the paint. QS needs to change that.

Did those teams ever have cap space? Were those players ever especially well-liked? Were those organizations and their coaches pretty much universally liked and respected by the players in the league?

The answer to all of those with respect to this Jazz team and Donovan Mitchell is no. Mostly that those teams basically never had cap space (maybe AD's team has, Deron's Jazz and CP's Hornets certainly didn't, almost positive George's Pacers never did), which is most central to this point.

Furthermore, I don't know that Mitchell is the free agent hunting type. He seems pretty down with the internal development path (at least right now).
I think Donovan completely believes in and loves everything about the organization. You can tell when hes talking about Dennis Lyndsey and Quin he has a deep belief in them both. I also think he would be willing to trust building from within.

I actually think at this point Donovan would prefer everyone was resigned, nothing changed, and just wants a chance with this team healthy. Donovan is committed to winning but you can tell he has just as deep of commitment to his current teammates and believes in them 100%. At some point, you gotta make a change though to get to that next level.

Donovan seems like a very loyal dude that will trust this organization and its management 100%, which is why, like I said, you hope he never changes or gets full of himself.

As for cap space, no most of those teams didn't have much cap space, obtaining free agents will still be tough, but that's why right now is so vital. Donovan will be making like $4 million a year next season and is worth $20-25 million. Its why you take your shot now because Donovan will be making that $20-25 million in a few years and he and Rudy will be eating up almost half your salary cap which really puts you in a tough place to sign 12 other guys with your remaining space. Its the situation Portland is in paying their guys. It's the situation a lot of teams are in. Once you have a couple stars its hard to be able to afford a decent roster beyond those guys and then you're stuck. The Jazz have the hardest part figured out, they have the stars they need in Rudy and Donovan, they have the cap space in the next few years to sign/take on a bad contract with a trade to bring in some talent. They've got to give it a try in the coming years. This is the best chance they have before Donovan is maxed out to bring in that 3rd talent in some way possible. Once hes maxed out, and deservedly so, it gets a lot tougher to improve the team.

Frankly I don’t give a snugglebum statswise as long as he is just as exciting as he was.

From what I understand out of his locker c/o, he will work on getting stronger, making reads and defense. But practically , I think taking over the offense is this guy’s nature so I expect more explosive games.

This also will be a year for him with more endorsements and publicity.

What I want him to work on is his decision making. He bypassed absolutely crappy games solely by his talent in which he made a lot of bad shot decisions.

Dwill was hot
Chris Paul was hot
Paul George was hot
Anthony Davis is hot

None of these dudes have gotten stars to come play with them on a small market team.

It may or may not happen but dwade got guys... I know it was Miami... but wade is a politician... I see DM as having the charisma to get us in the position to get someone. A lot of it will depend on timing too. If guys don’t hit FA tough to sign them.

Yeah, it was Miami. They werent coming to Cleveland.

Cleveland didn't have the cap space to sign anyone except LeBron, and that includes Shaq falling off the payroll. Miami did. Reverse the situation and King James would have brought players there.

They did and struck out early in his career
