What's new

Pretty damn funny

It wouldn't have been the "Name change - should I do it? Any ideas?" thread, would it? LINK.

Yup, I'm thinking it might be time to do it again!!!
I think you should do something totally original. Something like Archibald Jesus or something like that.

So who is old school here? I don’t even remember when I created my account.

A lot of people with 2010 join dates (viewable in Desktop mode) have been here a good while longer. The site crashed and burned in 2010 and all data was lost. Many of the regular posters from back in the day are gone or largely inactive.

Seems like I discovered the site through a reference on Realgm in the early 2000s (maybe 2003 for me) and there were already a lot of active users and rhe site was here for a while. With numerous username changes it is hard to keep track of everyone.

I think I first started lurking in 2007 or so, started posting for real after the reset in 2010.

You created your account on May 19, 2011 (shows up below your name on a desktop computer).

The jazzfanz.com website and message board was created in 2004, I think. @Jason would know the date for sure. I became a mod in Jan 2005, and I think the board was less than a year old at the time (but I could be wrong.) The board was created after Jason and others got frustrated with the realgm board that many of us had been using prior to that. There was a substantial exodus from realgm to jazzfanz at that time. I think I myself registered for jazzfanz about 3 weeks after it was founded. (I waited for a few weeks to see if the posters I liked most were going to bail on realgm or not. They bailed.) I can't recall which people who are still here joined at that time, but speak up if you did! I think there are maybe 10 of us still around. Anyone who's been here since 2004 is truly old school.

As the last three posters have alluded to, there was a massive board crash in 2010. All data was lost. Everyone had to re-register for the site. So anyone who has a May 2010 or Jun 2010 join dates (again, visibly on the desktop site) was undoubtedly around prior to the Great Board Crash of 2010, and in my opinion also deserves to be called old school even if they aren't quite as old school as the 2003-2004 originals. :)

I believe I first joined in 2005. So I'm old-school, but I took several years off.

I'm middle-aged school. Joined in 2011 but lurked for a year or two before that.

I'm really not sure how I found this place, I used to hang around the old ESPN message boards (ugh) until they disappeared.

Yeah, I don't remember how I found it either. Had never been on a Jazz board before.

The better question is why I stuck around...

In all actuality I'm really glad I did, this place got me through the Ty Corbin era. Not sure I would have stuck it out otherwise haha

Nice. Looks like I joined in December of 2004 under my old username after lurking for a while. Kind of fun to look at the wayback and recall a lot of the old posters. Wish the wayback had a more comprehensive backup, but understand why it doesn't...

Wow this is terrible history. If you even look at the top banner, it says 1999. I believe I started in early 2001. I think what you’re referring to is when JazzFanz merged with realgm for a period of time, then broke back off again.
