Question for you Jazz fans

Sorry New Orleans fans, but the Jazz brand, a longtime stable winner, is staying in Utah. Now if the Jazz were as historically terrible as the Clippers, Bucks, Cavs, TWolves, Warriors, Bullets/Wizards, or *ahem* Hornets, there may be a chance.

We've been lucky in Utah because of the Miller's commitment and success in managing the Jazz and building them into a winner.

New Orleans has a ton of fun history that should be mined for a rename. the Ball Don't Lie blog advocated the New Orleans Hot Five (a tribute to Louie Armstrong's band). That would be awesome for you guys.

Good luck finding a name. Just hope he doesn't name it the Sonics.

No offense to New Orleans, but its a terrible, terrible NBA city. It's already lost one franchise, and almost lost a second one.

Utah, on the other hand, has been a fantastic adoptive parent to the abused Jazz name, and given it a winning legacy. No way are we giving it back to the abusive parent New Orleans.

Well, let's be fair. The main problem with the Jazz in New Orleans was lack of their very own arena and poor personnel decisions. (They traded the draft pick that became Magic Johnson and the rights to exclusively negotiate with Moses Malone coming out of the ABA in order to acquire an over-the-hill Gail Goodrich). New Orleans put 25,000+ in the Superdome on several occasions, at a period in NBA history when 12,000 was a good crowd. The crowds didn't start coming out in SLC either, until you got Malone and Stockton.

As for the Hornets, the team has met every benchmark the league has set for attendance and ticket sales since hurricane Katrina.

I'm probably in the minority, but I would take the 'Saints' brand from the NFL team - logo/colours and all.

I think the New Orleans Saints brand is just as strong as the Utah Jazz value wise, if not higher. I do like the uniqueness of the gold/black strip that no other NBA team currently has.

So we get - Utah Saints (with the NFL team's logo, etc)
NO NBA team gets - NO Jazz (with our logo, etc)
NO NFL team - Rename/rebrand it to something else.

It'll satisfy those mormons, it certainly does satisfy me who's a strong Christian. If we can do that - I'd do it.
