Quin could decide to end 8 year tenure with Jazz according to Woj and MacMahon

I would also guess Quin is 100% not interested in sticking around for a rebuild.

Hell he might not even be interested in sticking around for a re-tool.

I am curious what his holdups are about committing to the final year.

Is it really just a powerplay to get a lucrative contract extension?

Does he want more control in roster decisions? Does he want one last shot with the main core (Don/Rudy)? Does he want the core to change? Is he interested in a rebuild if he has the right contract/power?
 
Also, a lot of assistant coaches have left recently.

Is that a sign that Quin is going too, so his guys are leaving proactively? Is it a sign that the FO is exerting more control over who they want in as assistant coaches, which in turn may convince Quin to leave?

Follow teh monies… he wants to get paid and chill for a year… then take over for Pop. No interest in this 12 month figure out how to keep Donovan period.


The alternative theory is he doesn’t want to coach Donovan or Rudy and is waiting to find out if one is gone… I just think he has eyes for San Antonio and is mentally out but still wants his money.
 
Quin doesn't make adjustments. In fact, he couldn't adjust if he sat on the golden spike at promontory point and it went 22" of solid gold, american spiked pride straight up the culo and to the left. He would just keep doing what he does.

Quin is not a player development coach. He was touted as a player development coach but actually wasn't. He had several great player development assistant coaches around him who mostly all left. He didn't develop any players since they all left.

For those reasons, he is not the right coach for the Jazz. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODRIDANCE.

The adjustments thing is largely BS IMO.

The biggest complaint I have on him is that he let the team take on Jordan Clarkson's identity too much. I wish they did more work to develop Gobert vs small ball. Get him more quality touches like he got in the Olympics. But I get a lot of that because of the Ingles injury. The team kind of had to take on Clarkon's identity because we lost so much of the Ingles identity that made us great when we got injured.

Locke pointed out today that he wanted the Jazz to play one way, but they played the other. I think the FO just needs to do a better job getting him players who can play the style he wants and get rid of the players who are causing the selfish style (Mitchell/Clarkson).

I think Ryan Smith wants to keep that Clarkson/Mitchell identity (because it's cool and fun!) and Quin is probably deciding to dip if that takes place.
 
The minute Quin becomes a FA he is going to have offers from every team. I know people are tired of him, but by and large we arent going to do better than Quin.
 
Also another interesting thing I got from the Locke podcast on this: It seems like Quin is potentially tired of the criticism/blame he got this year. I think Quin really defended his players, but the reality is he might be tired of dealing with the Rudy/Mitchell thing.

My overall takeaway from Locke (and admittedly this might be me putting my personal opinion into this): Quin hated the way the Jazz played this year (this was explicit). He's tired of it, but since Mitchell has so much power he cant really do much with how many people are in Don's ear. The new FO/Ownership is all about keeping Donovan happy, so it's furthering the stress on Quin. Add to that the fans are turning on Quin and blaming him for this type of style that has led to the losses, furthering his frustrations.

Locke mentioned the "heat" getting to him... well this is really the first time he's had any "heat". Honestly most of the media is so far up his *** he's talking about fans on the internet. If that gets to him then I don't want him here... its obvious it gets to our players too. If he's this soft then the players get to be too. If he can't stand up to Donovan and risk getting fired when he knows every team will offer him a deal... then he's just soft.

He doesn't get to have it both ways... he can either accept accountability and heat for the guys not executing or he needs to hold them accountable and not helicopter parent at every turn. If he's this sensitive then he can bounce and we will be better for it. You don't get to say "they didn't play the way I wanted" and not take a good chunk of the blame for that. He may think he can't get them to do it... well then that is why you get heat.
 
Nothing new here, I think this has all been reported before. Quin has one year left and he's turned down the extension. I don't think it's necessarily a money thing on either end, Quin probably just wants to leave. New ownership often means a new coach, the FO cleansing has already happened. Quin butted heads with the current and former front offices. I think the Jazz want him back because Don loves him, but the feeling is not mutual. Quin looked checked out as did the rest of the team.

Don't think Don will demand Quin gone, so Quin's future will depend on whether or not a good enough job opens for him. Quin holds every card in this situation, which is funny because he was a massive problem for this franchise.
 
I just have a hard time with a coach that has as much power/clout as basically any coach in the league saying "they didn't play the way I wanted" and thinking that is some excuse or reason he shouldn't be getting "heat".

Maybe its a Stevens - Udoka thing where the team needs something different or a new voice... but I honestly thought Udoka was going to get fired. He went hard at his guys early in the press... in his first year as a head coach after fighting like hell to get a job. Then Quin over here saying we don't have 4th quarter collapses and he doesn't like being criticized. GTFO man we been heaping praise on you for years... you aren't above reproach.
