Here’s my theory: It’s been easy for Memphis to play like they’ve got nothing to lose.... until now.
The 2 play-in games were win and advance. As we all know, ANY team can win 1 game on any given night in the NBA. Props to Memphis as that was definitely their mind set when facing the Spurs and GS.
Then we have Game 1 vs the 1 seed who ends up missing their superstar at the last second. Again, it’s not hard to see why Memphis had the right mentality to steal one.
While Memphis might be the young underdog playing the best team in the league, you can bet your *** that they’re going to start feeling like they’ve got something to lose as this series wears on. Young or not, underdog or not, nobody wants to go home and now Memphis has to protect home court. Buttholes are gonna start clenching in the 4th qtr of Game 3 when the Jazz have a lead with under 5 minutes to play. Jazz in 5. 6 at the absolute max.
Also, lol @ the Memphis fan who said they clearly have more talent than Utah. Without fail, there’s always one or two of those in every game thread. It’s crazy how the Grizzlies won 14 less games and are 7 seeds lower than the Utah Jazz all while being the more talented team.
