Rank the out of rotation players

Forrest is our best on-ball defender right now. He's solid and not as jumpy as Oni. Also, Forrest may be playable off the ball, as he's started hitting the corner 3.

Oni is mostly a defensive specialist whose defense is inconsistent. He's like a lesser version of Josh Okogie.

I would agree that Forrest is a better on ball defender, but I don't believe in his shot at all. I may not be a believer in Oni's either, but he is wayyyyy more proven as a shooter than Forrest. If you give Oni the same benefit of the doubt as Forrest as a shooter you might come away thinking Oni could be in the 3 point contest.

Without any belief in Forrest's shot I don't think he can make in on this roster. He could excel on another team that needs someone to run an offense and is OK with him dribbling the air out of the ball, but he won't ever get that opportunity here.

Oni is super streaky as a shooter.

Oni is super streaky as a shooter.

Definitely, but he’s pretty well established at where he’s at. 35% on decent volume in college, G-League, and real NBA games. Not great, but still way better than Forrest.

If Oni gets a little bit better on either end I think he can play in this league.

While I've been fairly positive on Paschall this preseason, I don't think it's going to work as a 4 in this system. He can't shoot. So who else are we going to play in the Niang rotation until Gay is back?

If we play Butler, we're very small. Conley - Butler - JC - Ingles - Gobert. You're really asking a lot from Gobert even though it comes against bench units. Butler also won't get a lot of touches and playmaking opportunities, but he is the best spot up shooter out of the end of roster guys.

Is Hughes or Oni a better option? I think I'd just double down and play Butler to get him the most experience as possible.

If the defense or shooting were better he could be a below average bench wing… if both improved he’s an average bench wing… I’d keep him around until something more interesting comes around.

The 9 rotation guys are:

Gobert
Bogdanovic
O'Neale
Mitchell
Conley
Whiteside
Gay
Ingles
Clarkson

There are a few days until the next preseason game and this might be the last time we care about a lot of the other guys, so no better time to rank them:

Doke
Bolden
Paschall
Fitts
Alston
Hughes
Oni
Teague
Butler
Forrest
Butler will be in the rotation

Starting 5:
Gobert
Bogdanovic
O'Neale
Mitchell
Conley

Then:
Clarkson
Ingles
Paschall
Whiteside
Butler
Gay
Forrest

I'm honestly not expecting Gay to play a big role during the regular season due to load/injury management, but he could be our X factor comes playoffs.

Oni is done in my book, and I'm expecting Doke to receive the Matt Thomas/Favors treatment soon.

Oni seems fundamentally broken when it comes to making good decisions on offense. Hoping he improved over the summer, but he seems to hesitate and then throw the ball away half the time he touched the ball last season.

Paschall seems to have a fundamentally broken jump shot. How the heck do you play with the Warriors for two seasons and have such ugly form on your 3 pointer? I’m assuming the Warriors know better than me (they are probably right and I am wrong, I’ll admit it.) I’ve only seen him take about 5-10 shots, but they all looked ugly. Can anyone explain this to me??? I admit that when it comes to basketball knowledge Paschall is 100 times smarter than I am, but I look at his shot and it looks terrible.

Watch the first two minutes of this video:

I can’t put my finger on it, but I think his rhythm is bad, his feet have a slight kick that is funny, and it feels like he’s jumping too high. My understanding is that changing muscle memory is a slow process and you don’t want to make drastic changes (which could damage his shot.) But shooting 35+% from three could mean tens of millions of dollars for him. Why is his shot so ugly?
