Wait, I just realized his interviews were more like watching the first home teaching visit to a new family when the companions are pretending to be close to the family, even though this is the first time they have met and it is not going well!
Ahhh I gotcha. Cringe comedy. I can get behind that.

I gave him a 5... most of the points have been made. I think he likes the job... not a super homer. He's got a great voice. He just doesn't know basketball as well as I think he should and is generally confused by what is going on too much. It's like watching a game with my dad when he's had too many to drink...

Dad they aren't calling that shot a two because the refs hate us... they calling it a two because he was only 15 feet from the rim.

Dad that player is actually not a good shooter... he's shooting just 20% from three. Just because he's white doesn't mean he can shoot.

Dad stop yelling racist or homophobic statements at opposing players... Okay maybe Boler doesn't do that.

True story... my dad watches games outside from his hot tub... one night the cops came over because the neighbor thought there was a domestic violence situation. He explained he was just watching the Jazz game and promised to keep it down.

Sideline reporter is the most useless job in sports broadcasting - unless a player gets hurt during a game and you're waiting on a status.

KK is cute as a button but I zone out whenever she talks.

They nailed that hire for that reason... she’s pretty cute but it’s not so obvious my wife asks who she is and says “I know why she got the job”.

I think she’s really likeable but whatevs.

Boler has gotten to that place where the things that used to annoy me make me laugh a little... I just loved that drunk bastard hot rod so much that every announcer we ever have will be just be another guy who isn’t hot rod.

Given the choice of Boler or some unknown I’d still choose Boler.

Mostly because I'm not really listening to what they are saying most of the time anyway.
I mean, I’m not drilled into what they’re saying either. Especially during game action. But I appreciate when there’s solid analysis during stoppages; and I don’t think it’s asking much for the main guy to know what things are called so that he can better describe the action during in-game sequences. I mean, we may have led the league last year in skip passes — our offense is predicated on it! — but Boler has no idea what it is. There are many other examples.

Or just player knowledge... Last night he said Niang was out there for his shooting and defense. Shooting sure... defense may be what keeps him of the court though.

There are some basics that he misses on... that and the constant confusion. I get it though... the things he says are what the casual fan who sits next to me at a game would say... and then I correct him/her and they don't talk to me the rest of the game.

Yeah I get where you are coming from, he definitely leaves a lot to be desired in that regard, and I completely understand why it's important for people. Like I said I tune them out almost completely during the game, or try to.

Honestly the thing I appreciate most in an announcer is someone who gets hyped on big plays because of how much better it makes highlight reels lol.

I thought he took over for Hot Rod in 2009 or 2010. I know he's been a professional play-by-play guy longer.
Wikipedia says he took over in 2005.

In addition to his other work, Bolerjack is the voice of the Utah Jazz. He replaced "Hot Rod" Hundley on the television broadcasts during the 2005–06 NBA season.[2] (Hundley continued to announce on the radio, but announced his retirement after the 2008–09 NBA season.) His on-air partner, Matt Harpring, is former Utah Jazzman. Harpring began doing the TV broadcasts starting with the season (2010–2011), when Ron Boone moved over to the radio broadcasts.

I have friends who didn't play much in HS and love the Jazz and they just love the guy. Their the guys that call me whenever something happens so that they truly understand what is happening. I imagine there are many more people in that demo than mine.

We should make Boler Jazzfanz Bingo or some other game. Every time he makes a certain kinda screw up we can punch that letter... first to call Bingo wins.

Messing up the 2/3 call is B
Being generally confused about what call is being made is an I
Screwing up the skip pass is an N
Not knowing the scouting report on a rotation player G
Making reference to Matt Harpring and Football O?

I need some help on the last one.

I just miss Hot Rod... now I'm sad...

My wife will ask me why I'm sad and Imma have to make up something so I don't get teased. True story... if I called my dad and brought up Hot Rod he'd likely tear up a little. They were kindred spirits.

We definitely got spoiled. I didn't have cable growing up, and being in Wyoming getting KJZZ over bunny ears was more hit than miss, so I listened to a lot more games than I watched. I became a Jazz fan listening to Hot Rod on the Radio, he could paint a picture of what was going on like nobody else.

Everyone who's saying BJack is clueless, like who are you comparing him or his comments to around the NBA? I don't care who the announcer is, they're going to make a few mistakes a game and miss something on the scouting report.

The Jazz are lucky to have Boler. He has great pipes and calls the play-by-play well above average. I'd place him, easily, in the top 10, possibly 5, team play callers.

Yeah, Hot Rod was amazing. I still listen to YouTube videos of him all the time just to get my fix. Again, the Jazz are lucky to have Boler. It's like having Montana, losing him and having Young follow in his foot steps. Y'all are acting like he's Steve Brown.

Good: Doesn't make it about him, professional, good voice, seems to enjoy the games (at least the last few years), not a ridiculous homer.
Bad: Not passionate. I think if he weren't paid he would only be a casual NBA fan. When you hear him talk about football he gets really excited, but when he talks Jazz he says it is really exciting. As a result, he doesn't seem to have a ton of knowledge (rules, strategy, opposing teams & players).

Overall: I gave him an 8 because he is above average and I wouldn't want to see him replaced because I trust him to not mess things up. I guess he is kind of like a game managing QB in football.
What you just described is not an 8.

He was so so bad... every time he talked it was like it was his first interview. He'd just talk and talk then put the mic in front of the player... and I'd be like did he ask a question?

I have no idea how he got that job and held it for so long.
