What's new

Remember the Alamo Dome - Jazz @ Spurs 3/23/2018 6:30 pm MST

I thought for once he didn't really look like a headless chook. Game almost slowed down for him a little bit at times. His TO's were a bit lame/careless that's for sure. You seem to think he's great when I think he is below par, and vice versa :)
There were 2 instances where he was bringing the ball upcourt and he looked blazing fast..... Not sure if that is because pau gasol was one of the guys he was blazing past or not, but either way, i was impressed by his straight away speed (and always have been) Wish he had more wiggle/shimmy/shake quickness and better handles.

Well royce sucks bad enough right now that im fine with anyone taking his minutes. I still dont believe in dante yet though. I think our bench is in trouble right now. Crowder is hit and miss too often too. We are starting to see the effects of not having hood or JJ on our bench for buckets now its seems to me.

Neto was hitting some shots at a good % and royce was playing great on offense pre all star break during the streak. We are lacking right now. Hopefully dante is the answer but im not very optimistic that he is. Thank god all of our starters are quite good.

Don't disagree with you. But it's hard for Dante and Burks (before him). It seems like their leashes are possession by possession. I always felt Burks struggled to get a fair reintegration (18 months ago?), and circumstances dictate that Dante isn't given too much run now. So people start making assessments of his shooting based on tiny sample sizes.

But even I can see he looks at times really discombobulated etc.

Yep. I feel he is below par in 'dexterity' and handles. He needs to use his speed and size more to compensate. We'll see//

I'm not sure his shot selection is poor... it is just the 3 isn't consistent enough yet. There are times he needs to drop off to the big on his drives or kick to the corner a bit more. I don't think it is a judgement thing at this point... I just don't see him as a chucker. Most of the threes he shoots are clean looks... just needs to make more of them.

Until we have another guy who can create consistently and eat up some of that volume I don't have an issue with it. I'd rather have our alpha be assertive... unlike what's his name that would sometimes shoot 8-9 shots and be too passive when he misses a few. I just can't ding donovan right now... he's been consistently great and is such a fast learner.

I feel he needs to take a lower proportion of his 3s off the dribble. He needs some of those 'easy' looks Jerebko and O'Neale get. Ingles seems to only run plays when he is involving bigs - maybe Mitchell on a wing should be an option on some of those drives Ingles decides to throw an iffy bounce pass at Gobert's knees.

Just some more catch and shoot would make his life a bit easier.

Donovan wouldnt shoot 30+ times if it wasnt in Quin's gameplan. Quin has yanked plenty a player before when they were going out of the system. I'm fine with it, it will only make him better, and he's our only option right now

Yeah, I'm basing my thoughts on Dante on the glimpses of impressive play we're seeing. He makes tough plays look easy with his speed and court awareness. He needs to get his wind and Quin needs to let him play through mistakes.

Confidence could turn him into a great player. Not sure he has the demeanor to become an alpha dog, but he has the athleticism and some of the requisite skill.

So how exactly did you come to the "deer in headlights" conclusion if you didnt watch him? It was as well as hes played since last years playoffs.

I missed his first stint but saw the rest. At times in the fourth quarter he looked either tired or a little lost, like the game was too fast for him.

I saw some really nice stuff from him, too.

I think Quin has set his rotations so Im not expecting him to get more minutes regardless of how he plays.

1 alpha dog is all you need. Best case is Exum becomes a decent Robin..

I'd like three alpha dogs, even four.

I see Dante getting more minutes as his fitness improves. Royce will be on the bench a lot more soon.

He played more off ball in the 2nd stint and didnt have Favors out there, who he'd work great with early.

The 4/2/4/1 stat line was all from that first 5 min stint.
