do you have some kind of time machine or proof that jabari and wiggins wont just be about the same good as our current young lottery picks?

Also how do we know what the ceiling of our current players is?

its a big risk to trade that much...... having said that, i wont be pissed if the trade goes down. i will be cautiously optimistic

High risk high reward.

Okay, you're on. If we trade up for Wiggins or Parker, I'll be pleased enough that I don't care what my sig looks like.

Hold the phone, Salty, you said "I will sig bet anybody that we move up no higher than #5" -- nothing about Fatty or Wigga.

Burks and Favors are my favorite players on the team and I still say Yay... because I care more about the Jazz trying to build a contending team than I do about the players I like staying on the team.

And you can't build a contending team without a star player (well actually multiple star players, but one step at a time), and the Jazz don't have one. Their best bet for getting one is through the draft, and in this draft they'll have to trade up to #1 or #2. And the #1 or #2 pick is not going to come cheap. Luckily, the Jazz have some solid assets, so it's time to use them and finally get this rebuilding process started for real.

I get what you are saying. It's not a guarantee that if we trade up we get a franchise player. It's just a chance I'd be willing to take. This draft might be super overrated. Who knows?....But I'm pretty confident that I don't see any franchise players on our current roster. I like Burks a lot too, but tbh his ceiling is probably just an all star, if that. Favors has potential, but I'm not sure he'll ever reach it. He just doesn't seem to have the mind for it.

I'd rather keep scrounging for that next big time star, than build a team that will never win it. Sure it's fun to watch a team compete, but at the same time it's really frustrating when you know it's not going anywhere. That may sound like a lame approach, I know, but I've suffered through enough mediocre teams. We've been a decent franchise for a long time. I want greatness. If we had been a franchise like the bobcats who have sucked a long time, then maybe my view would be different, and I'd just want to see our team compete.

ya you are probably right......

awww **** it, im in.

Sure wish we could get it done with pick 23 instead of burks though

Wow, the posters on this site are real gamblers. First of all, if Embiid was 100 percent, then maybe you do it. But even that would be risky because just by looking at the history of the draft, no one is a slam dunk. Guys could get injured after the draft, especially 7-footers. Look what happened to Sam Bowie. Bill Walton, too, though he still had a HOF career. Embiid already has had two serious injuries and has only played one season of college ball.

I rather take Gordon or BPA at 5 and stay the course with our guys. You can't make a reasonable assessment of our young guys because of Corbin. Continuing with him as a coach after his first full season was the worst move by this franchise in its recent history. Because of it, we don't really know what we have. I say keep 5 and try to move up from our other picks. And depending on who we get in the draft will depend on whether or not we keep Hayward.

Why didn't we take a few of the players who were given away for nothing last season if we weren't going to tank properly and then give up Favors and the #5 for an unguaranteed-to-be all star?

Spence Checketts said on the radio that he heard from his "source" that seven different teams had offered the Cavs for the #1 pick, but they told all but the Jazz and Sixers that they weren't interested. Said he didn't know what Philly offered, but that Cleveland wanted an unprotected future first rounder from the Jazz in addition to Favors & #5. He said the front office didn't want to offer an unprotected first, and tentatively offered to add Burks or the #23 pick as a counter offer, though he also said the Jazz front office is split on the idea of trading Burks.
