I was only referring to the post from trout that I quoted. Why am I not surprised that you over-reacted to a politically sensitive topic, and assumed more than should have been assumed?

oh ****ing pleeeeze, are you really gonna reference wiki and then just fly outta here as though you've scooped up some truth? What a ****ing loser. Wiki and Trout were wrong. I don't blame either of them because its a common misperception. I do blame you though... for being an obvious douche and failing to realize it.

Full disclosure, I negged this ****...hard.

The sham is those dolts who think the term "America" refers only to people who legally reside in the USA. That vision is completely derived from a nationalism that is dying. Before that, America referred to the new world, broadly speaking. And since Africans were forcibly brought to that new world, from north to south, for the same reasons, using the term "African American" is correct politically and historically with respect to the experience of African-descended people. I'm one of them, so, yeah.

I try to alway refer the the U.S. as the U.S. and not America, but citizens of the U.S. are called Americans. No other "American" nation has America in it's name, as far as I know. Correct me if I'm wrong. Feel free to do so in the inevitable retaliatory neg you're going to send me.

Why would I continue the poo flinging you started? I'll just call you an incorrect ******* and be done with it. Why you're so up in arms over my limited role in this discussion says a lot about you. The fact that you're so convinced that the name of a country should ABSOLUTELY DETERMINE the way you should refer to people that live in or near it shows how narrow-minded and uneducated you are about the mechanisms of power and discourse. In other words, you're a tool.

There are other political projects besides those that name countries. Idiot.

I'm up in arms over your abusive posting style in which you call colton a loser and me an idiot. For a new guy you certainly came in swinging. Mind you ****ing manners, son.

What people form other nations are referred to predominately as Americans? I'm no expert in South American culture or how each South American nation refers to it's citizens.

Lookout, it just went full retarded.

So you're not an expert but you're this mad? Over a post about trout's comments in which I was trying to clarify a point without being aggressive? And you're telling me to behave myself?

Stick to your usual shtick: the dummy's guide to dumb libertarianism.

To be honest I could care les what is correct politically. These so called "african americans" have no more current ties to africa than I do. It is a sham. If these people have African citizenship than by all means they should use the title. But the vast majority do not and are as alien to that culture as I am.

As for the whole America v. Americas fight, you are both right. It is commonly used, world wide, to refer to both. Just depends on the context of what you are saying.

It is incorrect to say the entire black community is as alienated from Africa as you are. Take one look at the linguistic, religious, and cultural practices of the majority of black folks living in the western hemisphere and you'd be forced to retract your comment. Because of the way that rock, blues, hip hop, etc. has influenced your life, you are also a bit of African American, too.

Political correctness is more than just a polite way we are FORCED! to talk in public. It's about acknowledging the historical context of words and names. Your insistence that we are all stripped of our European and African cultures is both wrong and hides the fact that African peoples underwent cultural changes in VASTLY more brutal ways than your European ancestors. Political correctness should try not to hide that fact.

Not really. Many of the cultural aspects of black United Statesians were born from their lower class status.

Also, many of them are Christian which contradicts the hypothesis you're trying to form on the fly.

Are there some? Sure and that is cool. See Franklin's* post as to why you are wrong. It is a good starting point. Language, religion, diet, music... very different between America and Africa.

I guess culture is completely determined by an economic base? I'm not shocked that you're selling this 150 year old reduction.

I guess all Christianities are the same (i.e. none have been transformed by the cultures in which they were transplanted)? ... so wildly wrong I don't know where to begin. My ancestors in Jamaica were worshipping "Saints" while they were actually worshipping Orishas. This form of secret resistance left an indelible mark on all ecstatic forms of Christianity practiced in the West.
