The pandemic was exacerbated big time by Trump. For months he downplayed it and refused to expand testing. Had he taken it as seriously as he did covering up sex with porn stars or getting re-elected we might’ve contained it far better and his base wouldn’t have become so anti vax. He is responsible for thousands of destroyed lives.I definitely agree that inflation is being laid at the feet of Biden when there is some degree of worldwide inflation happening which is not on this administration or mostly on U.S. policy, although U.S. policy can have an effect worldwide. This inflation was going to happen. Just like economic benefits can't be attributed to the just passed infrastructure bill, neither can inflation.
Most of the pandemic response happened at the state level. Trump certainly could have done more and set a better example and most of all he could have encouraged his supporters to act like adults rather than pouty little children who don't want to eat their brussels sprouts. But this pandemic has raged all over the world despite a variety of ways that countries have either tried to fight it or let it go. There are a few rare exceptions where the virus has been kept under control and those places have put in place extreme measures to control people and their movements. That's not just something that wouldn't have been accepted by the majority of the people in the U.S. but it wouldn't have been accepted in the majority of the Western world. So this pandemic is not Trump's fault. Again, he could have handled it better, but this was always going to be handled differently state by state.
I think the inflation thing is laughable. All countries, even those who didn’t expand government spending, are seeing inflation. What I find funny is that our media is blaming Democrats for the few Pennies of inflation while not providing them with any of the credit with saving the economy from a fate far worse.
We’re seeing 2008-2009 play out all over again. Yeah, it sucks to bail out Wall Street. But without the bailouts, we’d be seeing a depression that would’ve hurt you far worse. Likewise, the inflation sucks. Everyone is dealing with it. But had democrats not been in power to make tough decisions, millions would be suffering far more without the spending bills that have past.
Sadly, our society has been conditioned since Reagan to despise any government intervention. We believe all problems are caused by government intervention and lack the foresight to see what misery would be caused without government intervention.
Republicans know that Covid is fading and the economy is recovering. Their only chance to regain power is to gerrymander and suppress the vote and to convince enough Americans that inflation and critical race theory in public schools is out of control. That’s it. And our clickbait media will do everything to help them accomplish this. The media has a bias: no matter what good Dems do, it’s never enough. While no matter what bad Repubs do, it’s never too awful. For Dems, there’s no standard too high for them and for Repubs there’s no standard too low for them to sink to.
