Rondo on the Jazz

Okay ... there's like no chance Rondo ends up here .. I think it would be a homerun, best player .. others don't like the idea .. he's not coming so it doesn't matter.

i.e. Hayward, and his strengths, weaknesses, and potential, are a KNOWN (more or less) entity. Some future draft pick who would be the BPA is an UNKNOWN entity, ergo he may be better, worse, or just the same as Hayward down the road. But when assessing risk, often the devil you know (Hayward, and all his wonders and foibles) is better than the devil you don't (some faceless nameless future BPA of questionable quality). Consequently, in the eyes of many, keeping a player like Hayward would be preferable to gambling you can pick his replacement down the road. This becomes less of an issue the worse the player performs or the lower his stock has become or directly with the availability of a ready replacement.

Okay. Thank, sincerely, for your thorough explanation. I mis-read your post. I thought you were comparing someone on the Jazz team as a known quantity vs. Rondo as an unknown quantity. I see what your intent was .. fair enough.

No I am a fan of Rondo coming here. I was referring to your comment about the BPA in upcoming drafts.

Gotcha. That post was referring to the upcoming draft(s) being of redundant positions to what most already feel we have dialed in .. puts us on the exact same page, I think.

What did you hear/read that makes you so certain this won't happen? Cause I actually like the idea of Rondo on the Jazz :(

Just a hunch. If a story emerges that gives legs, I'll call him and see what he thinks .. but not unless there's a story.

Cool. I'm sure you've been asked this a ton, but if you don't mind me asking, what exactly is your connection/position with UK?

Rajon Rondo sucks. If he ended up here, I give it a month before the pitchforks come out.

I happen to agree about the pitchforks, but he doesn't suck. I would probably agree that he's somewhat overrated and there's a reason why Boston is shopping him. Having said that, I'm wondering where you rate him among PGs. He can't shoot worth a damn, but I doubt Utah would have a chance at a better PG anytime soon. Maybe years.

If Utah had a chance at landing him without getting robbed, I think they'd have to take a serious look at it. That's just it, though. I think there's zero chance of getting him without overpaying.

hell no

I've seen enough bricks by CJ, AK, and Brewer to fill a century of bricklaying.

We don't need another guard with Greg Ostertag range.

and that punkass voice????? I can only imagine him being thrown to the ground and screaming at the refs, "That's BS!" Just like what he did a few years ago...

Besides, Rondo is fools gold. He looked good because he had 3 hall of famers dragging him around. He's a good athlete. But it helps to have guys like KG, Ray Allen (one of the best shooters of all time), and The Truth out on the perimeter.

Somehow I doubt Rondo would look as good when he drives the lane, dishes it out to a wide open CJ, who promptly bricks his 5th 3-pointer in a row going 3-16 for the night. Big difference between Hayward, CJ, and Raja Bell vs Ray Allen and The Truth.

Stick with Devin Harris. He isn't bad. Then, we draft a PG. Truly, drafting is the (only) way to go with this small market team.

I'd much rather have Darren Collison.

Yeah, I know. Flame on.

I'd also rather wait it out with Harris and keep looking. Rondo is a cheap-shot artist and his own team - as successful as they've been with all of the leadership in the world - are rather sour on him. I'd love to see Rondo on another team and maybe I'll have to shut up, but I think him on a less-talented and less well-rounded roster that doesn't space the floor as well for him could be an outright disaster. Rondo has been in as PERFECT a situation for his skill-set as you could realistically conceive. I really don't want the Jazz to be that guinea pig whether I'm right or wrong, and that's saying nothing of the assets that Boston will demand for him.

I'm less than not at all interested.

I think we've seen/heard the range on Rondo so I'll duck out now .. not like we make the final decision anyway.

Then, we draft a PG.

That's the scary part. There doesn't appear to be any promising prospects coming down the pipe anytime soon. I think the last few years of really good PGs in the draft was just an aberration and we might be looking at the barren landscape that was the late 90's as far as PG prospects go.

For example, the only PGs I'm intrigued by this year are Nemanja Nedovic and Jordan Taylor. One is a bit of an unknown and the other can't finish or get to the line. Sweet.

I'll hold out hope that the Sixers **** up and will trade Jrue Holiday for some nice spare parts that we have (Harris + GS pick, maybe something with Millsap or Jefferson).

I'm in. Rondo is awesome and has not hit his peak. This is one of the few exceptions I could think of to my general reluctance to part with assets right now. Not much I wouldn't give up for him. They can't have Hayward, Burks, Favors or Kanter but just about anything else is game. I would probably not want to give up Sap either.

I would love to see this team's effort with this guy at the wheel. Elite vet PG to run the show and see how fast we get good.

Whats his peak i wonder? If he didn't play with 3 great players around him who helped him all the way down, he wouldn't have been anything close to what he is right now.Not every point guard should be bibby, but he has a great weakness, he can't shoot, but still he will want to get paid a lot. I think he is a good player but i don't think he is what we need.
(P.S. He was good as he was the young talent guy around 3 vets, but it doesn't prove if he will be good as Vet around 3 young talents)

I still want to see what Harris can do in a full season with us.
He has had the ability to be explosive in the past. Can he find a way to fit in with us?
Can he stay healthy?

Whatever the case I think it's foolish to completely dismiss him now.

I'd take Rondo for Harris straight up in a heartbeat. Great distributor, great penetrator, and good to better defense, great facilitator of both up-tempo and half court game, just what we need to get our young guys involved and give them quality looks. Even with his offensive liabilities, he's among the premier point guards in the league, IMHO. And I'm not a Rondo fan, in fact, I really can't stand him, but he's a quality PG who, I think, would make Jazz a much better team.

That said, I don't think there's a snowflakes' chance in hell that we land him. Still . . .

I'd do it. I'd do it for sure. Hopefully Boston struggles this year and are looking for a shake-up at the trade deadline. Harris and Big Al for Rondo.

Unless of course Harris and Big Al do really well this year for us.
