Rookie Contract Power Rankings

I think there are so many ways to slice this and depends on what each poster is basing their rankings off of. Like "good at scoring and stats" or "playing winning basketball" are two very diff things to me.

Key and Brice dont play winning basketball today so are right at the bottom for me, for example.

Collier below Cody seems kind of wild, but after SL I can't say it's an awful take.
I've been... very disappointed by what I've seen from Collier. I don't see much of any improvement in his game and the primary reason for optimism with him has always relied on him showing significant improvement in his shooting and ball security. If he doesn't improve he's not a starter and like we've seen in the last month or so the value of small backup guards who can't defend ... and also can't shoot... or score... or take care of the ball at a really high level, is not very high. With Cody... I'm not super high on him, either, but he's improving... I can see a path to him becoming a valuable rotational wing, even if the promise of him becoming anything more than a 3 and D one has all but vanished.

I think it's interesting that Locke has Keyonte as second from his podcast earlier this week. He still really believes.
There is a lot to like with Keyonte. To be fair there is also a lot to not like with Keyonte

Agreed. But, then again, Key and Brice both play positions that typically take 3 or 4 years before their career trajectories can be more confidently projected. And when they play for a team this isn't obsessed with winning, then the projection gets harder.

For me, Key and Brice have the highest odds of a big move up my power rankings.

The thing with Collier is that his value started appearing when he kind of accepted he couldn't score and just became a facilitator. Which is kind of the same thing that happened with Keyonte in Year 1.

But you can't make a career off being a game manager unless you excel as an efficient player, which neither Keyonte or Collier have shown to do at this point. He seems to be trying to prove his value as a scorer in SL, but it's just not happening.

The frustrating/annoying part is that the SL team is talented enough that Collier shouldn't need to force as much as he has.

Like last night he made an open spot up corner 3. Great. Those are the 3pt shots he should be attempting. But he also took a transition pull up 3, something he should never be attempting.

Everyone (myself included) is down on collier due to summer league but he did just have 12 assists last night (quite a few of them very high level difficult assists as well). I dont think there is anyone on the jazz roster who will get 12 assists very often in a game who is not named collier.
Oh and summer league is dumb and meaningless.

Yeah... and... furthermore... even if he's a game manager, he needs to be at a really high level with his decision making and ball-security to be able to get away with just being a game manager. And he's still turning the ball over at alarming rates even against lower level competition.

Yeah it's weird. I tried to check myself last night and try to see what he did well, but the negatives are just so negative. He can pass and make great passes and get into the lane at will, but he makes so many errors and he just can't finish well enough or convert on his FTs when he does get fouled.

He should definitely try some **** in SL. I can't jive with a mindset that gets wound up over this kind of thing.
I mean, he's going to fail at that and hard. If you want to develop confidence as a shooter you need to start with shots that are somewhat in your wheelhouse.

In most cases I would agree with you, but Collier is so far away as a shooter he needs to limit himself to low volume high quality attempts.

The game I attended he was so bad for a big stretch. Horrible decisions, sloppy turnovers, poor effort, bad defense etc. He has a lot of work to do. But his passing/vision is pretty elite at least.

The thing I like about Collier is that he is very daring with his passes. But that also results in a lot of bad passes and if he never develops self gravity I don't see it amounting to much.
