Why would a team with two current max players want 4 first round picks spread out and protected for the distant future?

Better question: how much better is Saric than Bjelica, who they just let walk?

Cool, they salvaged the current situation with a couple role players. The value of a first round pick also isn’t only realized with drafting someone, but as a currency. And with offering up four first rounders, the back end of those would have to be unprotected, unless it was a protection that converts to cash or second rounders.

It was a sneakily reported deal... they wanted to dump Knights contract which is worth a first by itself. The other firsts were likely protected and wouldn’t have the value the Nets firsts did.

Good point about Bjelica and Saric.

Was the 4 1st rounders true or a rumor? To me, it sounded like a Chris Broussard "according to my sources" report. It would have taken Brandon Knight's contract too.

I think Covington is a poor man's Butler and he's locked into a friendly contract three years after this season. Covington will be one of the best contracts in the league in a couple years when he's making less than $13 million for 2020-21 and 2021-22. I think Covington is a better asset than Gordon or any of the firsts that Minnesota would have gotten.

Covington and Butler are completely different. The man has a 66% 3pt attempt rate, rarely shoots off the dribble, and rarely takes mid-range shots outside the paint.

I think Covington will take more shots in Minnesota than he did in Philly. With so many plays being run for Reddick, Embiid and Simmons, Covington was made to just sit on the outside. With Thibdeau's philosophy of playing his starters a ton of minutes, I fully expect Covington to play more, shoot more and do well in Minnesota. He might not get the green light 16 shots per game like Butler, but I fully expect him to start shooting 12 or 13 a night.

Yes, Thibs might ruin him and turn him into a horrible player, it's possible I guess.

He is nothing like Butler. If he tries to be, he isnt a NBA level player offensively.
