Roster Building From Here - FA and Summer of 2023

Don't know if he's been mentioned yet, but Kevin Love would be a nice addition off the bench. He can do all of the Kelly dribble handoff stuff, but he adds a lot more rebounding which is a pain point for the Jazz. He'll be 35, so maybe he's cooked....but he does like living in Utah.

No chance.

Love might be a good stopgap for depth, but I'd consider Plan #234 of 252. Honestly, I'd rather reserve the roster spot for a young player that needs minutes or a player dumped for a pick we'll need to hold for a while.

To be clear, I'm only thinking about investing in him at the minimum. I was wondering if he has enough juice left to be a backup next season.

There is no juice left. He a raisin.

He's probably a guy who can give you one good game out of every 10. He's probably worth rostering if you are a playoff team looking to fill the last spot with a good lockerroom vet and maybe you throw him out once in a while to see if he has it that night.

Or a young team with no depth and happy to have the vet presence/leadership. I don’t know if that’s the Jazz but it could be as a lot can happen between now and July.

Say the Jazz have interest in a player that played overseas or in the GLeague and is an unrestricted free agent. Can they sign him now or do they have to wait until July 1 when the new league year starts?

I dont see Love agreeing to join a team just to be a cheerleader for younger guys. Could be wrong and maybe he's just a guy who's content just sticking around anywhere, but I think he would want a chance on a playoff team where he might have a chance at possibly getting in a game (which checks out given he asked out of Cleveland when it became clear they had no intention of giving him those minutes anymore).

I’m still not totally out on Lonzo depending on the deal.

If the Jazz really are eyeing a tankish scenario then that is the move to make. I think Lonzo/his people/the Bulls have been overthinking the obvious course of action but that they have all finally arrived at it: replace the missing meniscus with a cadaver’s since that tissue basically just doesn’t heal. Recovery time is still just way to long for a team that’s trying to win now or perhaps have already missed their window entirely, but I think it might work in the long run.
