Roster Building From Here - FA and Summer of 2023

If we was going to opt out why would he agree to sit out? Wouldnt he want to continue to raise his value with another big performance?

One singular game is not going to change his contract. GM’s look at the totality of his season and career.

THT/Dunn
Ochai/Sexton
Lauri/Simone
Olynyk/Gay/Samanic
Walker/Jones

That seems like our roster for next year as far as players under contract.

11 players. 3 draft picks. That only let's us sign one player in free agency, which I'm assuming the Jazz want to be Clarkson. The Jazz might not be as aggressive in free agency as I thought.
There is zero chance those 11 players start the season with the Jazz next year. I would guess three or four will be packaged as part of small-medium trades including similar players and/or draft picks.

I would agree that's it a very low chance, but not impossible.

I think Luka/Gay/Jones/Simone are all guys that could be cut/waived or moved in other deals as salary cap filler. I would bet at least 1 of them isn't on the roster opening night and bet 2 of them are gone by midseason.

KO/THT/Sexton are guys I could see getting moved if we wanted to consolidate a bit and have an opportunity to get a better player. Most likely they are on the roster... but no guarantees.

I also think if Gay is not moved in the offseason that he will be waived or bought out. We will have enough other options under contract and be flexible enough with cap space that we no longer need his contract to match salaries elsewhere.

Additionally, the singular downside to having an injury at the end of the year is higher than the potential upside of doing whatever in a tank-off.

You can put money on this. Gay isn’t here beyond training camp (at the latest).
