Roster Building From Here - FA and Summer of 2023

Gay may be valuable for salary matching purposes. I could see Dok as well (I know he's an UFA) but the Jazz could do a sign and trade for matching purposes.

He definitely is not getting bought out, so it would have to be a trade.
this is not true.... if his primary purpose is for salary matching in a trade later... and you need the roster spot for a player you actually like as a player... then you absolutely buy him out. Just having him around and knowing how bitchy he is when he doesn't play it might be worth a buy out.

Bitchy? Hardy seems to like him and he seems to have gotten along well with the team this year.

The fact is that Rudy seems like he still wants to play basketball, so he isnt going to accept a buyout given the fact I doubt anyone is excited to sign him. He's going to stay on the roster unless traded.

Yes bitchy... is your head in the sand bruh... its literally in press conferences. Why was he happy this year? Cuz Hardy played him even when it was really really bad. If he is a walking trade exception and isn't in the rotation I am sure he will be a sunny son of a bitch all year.

Then you waive him.... ain't hard. He gonna be happy here rotting end of bench? You gonna give him 20 minutes a game next year?

The only thing that makes sense is if there is a big name free agent we cant afford unless we waive and stretch Gay. If that doesnt exist, they are just going to hold onto him as a trade piece for matching.

Why not just waive him this past season if that was the plan?
Because there is an extra year on the deal. If you get through the summer and haven't used his contract in a deal then you go ahead and call it... unless you plan on playing him.

We were also inches away from the tax and have infinity cap space next year... so completely different scenarios. Its pretty obvious.

THT is definitely opting out. Why would he opt in with no guaranteed minutes next year? He should capitalize on his good play this year and try to get a 4/60M deal or something around there.

So if the plan is to use him in a deal, why not wait til the deadline?
